Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

I last saw them in 2004 at the Apollo. It was an excellent, if short set. Not much of the 80's 'big hair' songs, and those they did play were stripped back and less keyboards.

Have read people unhappy with recent US dates because including a good few covers in the set. UK tour has Squeeze supporting, in the US it's Cheap Trick. I would likely have overcome my hatred of the Arena and gone for that.

A must for me.

Saw Journey in Vegas in summer 2022 (only third time) and it was good. Would have preferred less ballads but still good.

Had tickets for Cheap Trick that got moved due to covid and eventually cancelled so this is a double bill I want to see.

There was some talk of getting Steve Perry to appear on the 50th Tour but doesn’t look like that is happening.

If Steve was on stage too, I’d be there in a shot.

Whilst I’m here I’d recommend the Steve Rothery Band at Band On The Wall. Last summer he did Misplaced Childhood on the Friday. Was the most enjoyable concert I’ve been to in years. I missed Clutching on the Saturday because there was Roger Waters at the Arena. Oh, and a footy game in Istanbul.

I’m expecting a Recital Of The Script and Fugazi this year, maybe even with a bit of Grendel thrown in if we are very, very lucky.
£65 + bf for both the nights.

See you all there :-)

Neither the missus nor me are keen on Pineda singing. Especially live. Plus $chon and Cain clearly hate each other (publicity shots aside) and last time we saw them, they barely even looked at each other, lol. So not too fussed about seeing them again.

Cheap Trick of course is a different matter for me. Was gutted they didn't reschedule the Covid cancelled headline dates, and was beginning to think we had seen the last of them over here.

I fully understand the logic of them joining Journey for this. (though I still can't see most actually selling out in arenas. Apollo size theatres yes ...) Especially that Neilsen says at his age, he is happy to do their set and be back in the hotel relaxing by 10 pm as support act.

And therein lies my problem ... it's £daft ticket prices for what will clearly be a 45 min 'greatest hits' set, and I really can't justify paying so much for that. Additionally, I hate the AO Arena, where unless best seats sound is shite. I did have a look at presale this morning for the far superior Leeds Arena, and could have had second row seats ... but totalling £280 ... and as hard as it was to do, I declined them.

Of course, if this is their last hurrah over here, I will be sad I missed it, but then my last memory of seeing them will have been their gig at The Cavern Club a few years ago, and that was one of the best I have ever seen them do. So I can live with that.

Though ... in the past I have been lucky to get on their guest list when they have been the support act a few times. (Deep Purple and Def Leppard tours were two) and I have been in touch with my contact there, so will see ;-)

I met Fish when Marillion were playing Cardiff Students Union in 1984 I think, tickets would have been less than a fiver!

Just got Fish tickets today, his “farewell”’tour early next year in Wolverhampton, £55. Thought it was a bit steep, but reading about these other prices it seems quite tame!
There arn't many for less than £50 these days, though got Mr Big tickets for £38. Got tickets for Fish last night in Glasgow should be good.

Feel exactly the same about Journey, wish they'd stuck with Jeff Scott Soto, but too much personality for them these days, or Neil Schon anyway. Hoping Cheap Trick do a few headline dates while they are over.
