Community Shield Official Post Match Reaction Thread

Today showed how we've not moved on at all, how Mancini will never get the best out of this squad, that De Jongs position is pointless against 4-4-2, that we've next to no ceativity and that Mancini is just not at the intellectual races.
He said after the match that he couldn't understand why we were playing so deep when we went 2-0 up whilst playing two holding midfielders, duh!
The sum of your players should add up to more than their total, with Mancini it's less!

To be fair to him (though this can be attributed as his fault as well), whom does he have on the bench and in the squad that is more creative?

Independent back page: "Not so noisy now". Got to love how a nickname we don't even use for ourselves is used against us.

Ian Herbert has really exposed himself as a rag in recent days on Twitter, and here was I naive enough to believe that paper was the last bastion of objectivity.

Speaking of the rag media.

Lets put this into perspective, utd played 9 maybe 10 pre season games.weve played 6 or 7.and it showed.they out played us,in the first 30 mins.but we still created chances and went 2-0 up.once our fitness kicks in we will be unstopable.

Yes, it was the strikers' fault City lost.

This place is becoming delusional. It is obvious that midfield is thin, even when it works better than today. But noooooo, "let's buy three more strikers!".

Idiotic, really.

Agree.

Our midfield couldn't hold possession to save their souls. How would getting more strikers help that?

We need pace and the ability to win and keep possession. The ability to trouble clubs like them.

Milner- nope
Barry- yeah no
Johnson- offers some attacking ability but is not someone who can keep possession and dictate play
Yaya- is fasting

Silva was the only midfielder we had who could hold the ball longer than 3 seconds. At one point he embarrassingly dribbled around the pitch looking for a pass to a midfielder and couldn't find it, he just kicked it off to the fullback.

Nasri AND Sneijder wouldn't be a bad idea after seeing that.

They played 6 according to this, which doesn't include testimonials which are basically kickabouts: <a class="postlink" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/results/default.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... efault.stm</a>

However, their fitness levels were quite clearly superior to ours for one reason or another.

SWP (in good form), Jonhson and play two central midfielders that than get up and down the pitch. I'd tell Yaya to have a rest in the back four and let Kompany and Milner do what they want to do in the middle!

Milner did ok today, had a better game than Toure and De Jong anyway.

What does SWP have to do to get a game though? He'd have done well today too and it would have give Micah more support against Young and Evra.

Plus another injury time winning goal against us as well.

It is a perspective thing realy. We were out played by the fitter and sharper team but man for man our team is undoubtedly better. We just need to get all our business done asap and work like fuck to catch up...

It begs the question though, WTF where they doing in the USA? playing monopoly and subathing? De jong, Kompany, Milner, Richards Balo and especialy Yaya looked poor today. Davivd Silva can't do it all by himself. Any reason yet as to why Aguero didn't get 20mins?

All in all i'm not too worried, Pre season counts for shit, it's when the party starts we need to start winning games.

Yes, they were SERIOUSLY fitter than us and that was the difference. If we were fitter they wouldn't have got back into that game. I'm concerned why we're not fit with only 8 days to go til the season starts, more concerned over that than getting beat today. A Serie A pre-season wont do in the Prem. I fall asleep sometimes watching Italian football on ESPN, it's slow, it's unimaginative, it's unambitious.. I hope they've got a hard wek in training coming up, and the International games are a blessing (even though I was strongly opposed to them last season) as it's another game to get fitness levels up.
