Corners

Sorry but there is absolutely no excuse at all. I can take a fucking better corner and I am in my mid forties! They want fucking hammering and the coaching staff should come out and apologise because there is no way they can be practised. That in itself is fucking appalling. I don't mind losing but watching world class players struggling to do what an avareage pub side can do pisses me off no end!
As for the defending of them that is just as bad and someone needs bollocking or not addressing a key part of the game!

I think in future when we get a corner, we just give the ball back to the other team as that's what happening now when we take the corner

We are comfortably the worst team in the Premier League from corners. It doesn't make any sense at all. The delivery is appalling. Most crosses have no pace and are either underhit or overhit. We have some brilliant technical players but the quality from corners is League One standard. This has got to be a coaching issue. If we were just average we would surely have a lot more points. We are also dreadful at defending them. The goals today and at Woodison were just schoolboy howlers. I think we are better than Chelsea but they have better organisation.

What concerns me more is the fact that despite how shit they are, I don't see anything in the next game that highlights to me that this has been noticed and addressed. If I could see we were trying something new then I could maybe accept that maybe it won't come off but to just keep doing the same thing over and over again makes the coaching come under scrutiny again.

What would be normal in terms of goals to corners? Clearly 0 in 139 isn't normal.

I don't think it's just the lack of goals, it's the lack of chances created. When did an opposition keeper even have to make a Save from one of our corners?

If the opposition defenders are clearing the ball (not the keeper), then it means WE could have gotten to that ball too. They face us, we face them, the ball comes over (like a rugby line out). If a defender gets a toe to it, we could get a toe to it. If they get a head to it, we could have instead.

Sooner or later a player as to say 'see that ball... I'm having that!' - it seems we just don't want that ball as much as they do, and expect it to arrive on our head or at our feet without problem.

The game is very simple really. Very simple indeed. Be the first to get to that ball.

Totally agree.. this is unacceptable at this level

It doesn't warrant a thread of its own, but we're not much better at throw-ins either.
We lose all tempo when we take them, and nobody ever seems to want the ball.

We lose so much possession from them.

It seems once the ball goes out of play, we're doomed, as goal kicks aren't much better either.

I would say that is the least of our problems in all honesty...

never mind corners we take how many free headers do we give at corners against us

It's got to the point now where I get depressed when we get a corner, they are actually getting worse which I didn't think was possible.

The problem I have is that I am scratching my head as to who in the team is able to take a decent corner.

Kolarov has ability but isn't in the team, Merlin and Navas are not producing the goods at the moment, Milner possibly but he is in and out of the team, neither of the Ferns can do it, Nasri is a possibility but is injured. In other words the options are very limited.

I think I would start by abandoning the out swingers. So I would switch Navas or Milner to the other side to take corners, which means Merlin has to take them from the other side. I know it's ancient history but when Edin scored against QPR to make it 2-2 in the title season, it was from an inswinging corner from Silva.

Ironically we have the players that CAN score from corners. Vinny, Demichelis, Dzeko and even Mangala are very good in the air. The ball is simply not getting to them. I know it's a well worn debate but I think they have more chance of scoring from an inswinging corner.

The other alternative is to always play the short corner. At least then we have control of the ball.
