Corners

My fear is that the majority of Bonys goals are headers from crosses and that's by far the weakest part of our game (it's just atrocious). Couldnt understand why we didn't let Lampard take them once he came on he could whip a ball better than any out there, Silva Nasri and Navas are as bad as each other. A player that can whip in a peach of a ball can be worth 10+ goals a season but we have no one.

against pacey wingers we should play clichy right back and kolorov left if it is only to take the corners!

I was thinking the same. His delivery from open play to is much better than Navas. OK he is not so quick but Navas at the end of the day is hugely unproductive. I do like his defensive work but ultimately he was bought to create.

.......... Kun
Kolarov Nasri Silva
Yaya Fernandinho

Could that work?

How, with players the quality of Silva, Nasri, Yaya, Navas, Lampard, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Milner, Jovetic etc and players as good in the air as Mangala, Kompany, Demichelis, Sagna, Fernando, Dzeko and Bony, can we not pose any threat from set-pieces whatsoever?

It really makes no sense.

Give the lad a chance fella...
Haha

Tbh it won't make a blind bit of difference, if the deliveries continue to be as poor as they have been he won't get anywhere near the ball anyway.

I've given up getting excited when we get a corner now.

I think the crowd don't get excited either but we sh*t ourselves when we concede one don't we?

We must be the worst team in the league at corners and it really needs to be addressed!

You can bet your life Terry will score off one in 2 weeks time!

I thought we reached a new low with corners few weeks ago but today we not only reached new depths , we absolutely smashed the barrier.

Absolutely abject and inexcusable today. 16 corners and only one met by a City head.

Its not just the piss-poor deliveries either. Navas floated a couple of half-decent ones in that were easily dealt with by the Arsenal defence.

1/16 is just pathetic considering the attacking team have the advantage of being able to run onto the crosses.

Where is the hunger for fucks sake??

I play football at a half decent standard and basics are drummed into you from day one. On corners it's always a player on each post and one on the attacker that normally stands on the keeper. Everyour else is man for man. This season our manager in pre season training said "right boys I'm mixing things up on corners". What he's done is when defending corners is leave 3 attacking players on the half way line and one AM between 18 yard box and halfway line and nobody on the posts. To date I think we have conceded 1 Possibly 2 goals which could have been cleared if someone was on the line, but the amount of goals and chances we have created from successfully defending a corner is unreal.

Arsenal this season have conceded 9 goals from corners and they were comfortable on every one of ours this afternoon. 123 corners without a goal is really poor wether your Man City, Barcelona or Wimbledon. UNACCEPTABLE. Get it sorted City!!

Corners today were more of a bonus to Arsenal than to City.

It's almost like we're delivering a ball to them so that they can initiate a break.

I'm not necessarily a fan of short corners, but maybe we should vary it a bit and try a few more short corners once in a while.

I've given up! I don't know why we even bother anymore.

Seems better to just take a short one and try something different instead of giving opposition keepers endless catching practice under no pressure.

WTF has happened to our aerial threat?

I think it got to the point where Arsenal were glad of conceding corners, Monreal's "sliced" clearance was probably well thought out...

As long as they are better than the one against Stoke when we got mugged.

Should have them taking 100 of them in a row in training and if they miss a single one they have to start again from the beginning. Fucking joke professional footballers earning hundreds of thousands a week can't kick a ball far enough.

We have to try something different from set pieces as what we are doing now simply isn't working.

How about bringing 2-3 players in close, taking the kick short or freeing up more space in the box if players who come close are all marked up.

Make Silva and Navas take 50 corners each tomorrow morning as punishment. While they're at it have Joe practice at catching a few balls instead of punching them all the fucking time! Shocking.

Seems Joe was ordered never to actually catch but punch those balls back in,there's one today that he could have caught easily but punched it back and we lost possession and almost conceded
