Corners

Our set plays yesterday were an utter shambles. I get the impression that our players are more suited to an instinctive style of play rather than one where they have to think.

The one thing that frustrates me is the delivery. We have 2 defenders pop up for corners, what is the point in them even bothering if it doesn't get over the first man. It leaves us completely open on the counter if we are going to keep taking such poor corners. In future, if we aren't going to have someone who can at least get a ball into the box, Kompany/Mangala/Demi or whoever is our full backs for that day may as well just stay back.

Radical plan; if one of our lads is shepherding the ball out for a corner, he should kick the ball out for a throw in to the opposition near to the corner flag. We'll probably pose more of a threat to them in that scenario than from one of our legendary corners! Seriously though; do we nor practice corners in training? 9 out of every 10 are bloody woeful.

It's so frustrating how bad our set pieces are, we get players in position and everything looks good, then we don't beat the first man from a corner.

I just don't get how top professional players can be so poor at putting the ball into the right area. Sure, if you're under pressure I can see it's difficult and accept misplaced passes sometimes, but they're under no pressure at a set piece, they have time to set their body shape, pick out an area, everything. There's no excuse for an international player on about 100k a week, not to be able to put the ball right into the danger area from a corner.

They get worse and fucking worse, it's getting to the point now where I actually worry when we get one as we're more likely to concede on the break than we are to score.

I can't quite believe that MP hasn't sorted this as yet, it's fucking criminal.

Its got to the point where I'm looking whether we've got enough defenders back.

Me too.
This is the worst it has been since the Keegan era. It's a shame too. These psame players were excellent at set pieces under Mancini.

It's got to the point where my shoulders slump and I give a little groan when we win a corner because I now know absolutely nothing will come of it.

They've become so poor that I think we should just play a short one and recycle some possession again, each time.

You'd have to have neck muscles like Gladstone Small to convert one of our powder puff out swinging floaters.
It must be like trying to head a balloon into the net with the way we just dink it in.

It's got to the point now where I am more disappointed when we get a corner than when the opposition get a goal kick.

We used to be dangerous as fuck from corners ffs!

Need to go short, near post or clear everyone so someone can follow up at the back. Cant beat the first man conventionally

Or just tap any corners out for an opposition throw in by the flag.

Being serious though. When Pellegrini came we were dangerous from set pieces, we just need to put some work in on the training ground.

Ever since manuel took over we have been absolutely shocking at both corners and free kicks with the exception of the ones yaya had last season on the edge of the box. we either don't beat the first man or hit them 15ft past everyone and the 2 man free kick is purely a farce that just gives the wall chance to charge down the kicker.

Its got to the point now where i go for a coffee or make myself busy every time we get a corner.
