People who have struggled to get elected, not sure they would poll enough to make it to a run-off.

None of them should be anywhere near a position of power. I was merely giving examples of other, recent political leaders and alternatives should a President Blair or Johnson be too unpalatable for most.

It’s not exactly a strong bench.

Or perhaps if we replicated Ireland’s last presidential election, we could have a politician turned broadcaster (Michael Portillo) beating a celebrity businessman (Alan Sugar), if that floats your boat.
