Well said.

We need effective vaccines so I was pleased this morning to read that the vaccine taskforce is discussing a variant vaccine strategy. At least the UK medical authorities seem competent and have the ear of government. We need to stay ahead of the curve and vaccines remain the way out. Providing we maintain these then we can protect everyone in time.

There seems to be little co-ordinated action taking place to increase vaccine supply. We hear that new production sites are opening so something is going on but all the hot air is about squabbling and competition.
From what Zahawi has said, and guessing about how I think we will be working, I reckon we will be well ahead of the curve with regards vaccine production sites in this country.

Does anyone know how other countries record deaths, I know the UK put down covid death of within 28 days of a positive case but would love to know how other country's do it

I can’t say too much but AZ are doing this for no profit and have had their reputation tarnished by the EU. They are not happy at all and future vaccinations across Europe for adaptations will not be at the same price put it that way.
Its a right joke , totally dis the vaccine bit then complain about getting stocks of it

I'll give boris his due we near the end and he might have saved him self with our vaccine rollout with the 3rd wave hitting Europe

AZ have a clause in their not for profit delivery of their vaccine that they can declare the pandemic over in July. They can then start charging countries then if they so wish, the EU better get moving.

Stop being disingenuous.
You are fully aware of the point I am making. The cases data from last summer is not comparable over a period of time as it was contingent on a rapidly expanding number of tests performed.
The people going into hospital with Covid, was not.
Hence using the hospitalisation numbers from last summer as a more representative form of data.

So I refer back to my original point, there was no uptick in pandemic activity until the end of August last year, despite restrictions gradually loosening all summer.
You’ll be a ’denier’ soon enough.......

It's hardly rocket science is it to back the only play in town (vaccines) and yet the UK vaccine taskforce seems to have been alone in Europe in doing so. I think we all expected Germany to lead Europe out of this. I would have done months ago.

Your right its not rocket science but we backed it big time, didn't mess about at all

By looks of it Biden is saving stocks for the America now

To be fair to him the genome sequencing of the virus in September/October indicated it was the slightly more infectious Spanish variant that was surging. Brought back by people going for late summer holidays to Spain and the Med.
Only preventing overseas travel would have reduced its impact. Too many truck drivers coming in to stop it from happening though.

Didn’t we have our 3rd wave in January, and now Europe is only just experiencing the equivalent now? Kent variant inflicted

They never were going to be anyway, it’s only at this cost whilst it’s still considered a pandemic.

Yes, which doesn’t mean the EU.
Or the UK, US or any other wealthy country. I can't quite understand your point.

AZ is a fraction of the cost of Pfizer, Moderna etc and even Chinese & Russian vaccines. It is a gift to the vast majority of the global population as they will get it for free or pay relatively tiny sums for it.

Reread the post I was responding to, I was saying the cost that the EU are paying for the vaccine (and other wealthy countries, as you say), was never going to stay the same for the future.

So running of the Government parameters 70 people died yesterday of the COVID virus blocker, 3 million of the estimated 1.75 million vulnerable people have had their second jab so are 92%-96% immune for upto 3 months, 18 million sheep have had their first jab, what for? did they buckle at the government threat of COVID passports the denial of work or movement, other regimes have done this and ended up in war, but we would never do that, we would never increase a redundant nuclear threat.
The blocker came with minimum testing but indicated a 15% rejection rate and as every pensioner knows if you take a new drug it affects all the others, it can take months to get the balance right many die, GP`s run a risk everytime, so when someone tells you there is no risk they are lying, but for 1.75 million it is a risk worth taking again and again, to everybody else it is just a block on their body developing their own immune system, being 92% covered living with someone else covered 92% does not make it 100% quite the opposite the more blockers in society means the more likely it is to mutate to survive.
Having said that soon we will be able to toast the first martyr who died taking government prescribed drugs deemed safe for the benefit of society and his freedoms, you can see him on the back of £50 notes soon.

Sorry just to add, it’s not AstraZeneca’s fault but intermediaries are meaning that isn’t the case as much as ideally hoped too.

Once pub gardens and gardens are allowed it will be a free for all for most people - will be house party’s galore. Here’s hoping we’ve vaccinated enough and done enough to prevent a third wave. I’m unsure.
Back to this shit again is it?

let’s keep everyone locked down because some might go further than is permitted anyway.

load of bollocks.

Some of us have had only 26 days’ of legal social mixing in just over a year now.

Sounds remarkably familiar to what certain posters on here have mentioned...

Within a week or so of mass roll out of the vaccinations there were so many reports of people with long covid symptoms reporting the first dose made a difference they started collating the data to study it.

No report as yet as far as I know but it seems pretty clear that it is a not well anticipated but probably quite logical outcome of a successful vaccine that it helps not just to stop a new infection but kick out an old one that has remained in the system for weeks or months somehow enough to cause lingering symptoms.

I think these reports being so widespread was the first serious proof we had in the real world that the vaccine was for real.

Yet, of course, the stories got a fraction of the attention that far fewer events did that led to people dying across Europe whilst the AZ vaccine use was paused.

To paraphrase the old adage - good news is no news but bad news sells papers.

I know you said that but it is irrelevant. Even if AZ put a margin on it for wealthy countries AFTER the pandemic it still will be the cheapest vaccine by a country mile.
