COVID Data Thread

203 all settings deaths

189,846 cases

A new record but just by 633 on yesterday

And only up 6009 on 2 days ago.

So no exponential rise in past 2 days.

A rise of 67,660 on the week

England cases though ARE very much a new record

160,276 - was 146,604 yesterday & 105,069 last Friday

The 203 deaths are up from 137 last week

England only 178 - up from 114 last week.

That is a very big rise - especially as only 118 were reported from hospital. So that infers 60 out of hospital in England and reinforces my concerns on care homes.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DATA

Admissions (Wednesday)

2370 - UP from 2082 - 1751 - 1374 - 1281 - 1020 - 1252 AND 1246 LAST Wednesday

So doubled in the week.

Yesterday - Today in the regions V last Wednesday)

London Up 456 - 511 V 386 last Wednesday

Others

Midlands 367 - 503 V 201

NE & Yorkshire 363 - 384 V 129 (but DOWN today note)

AND

NORTH WEST 305 - 404 V 173

NORTH WEST AS YOU SEE IS NOW THE BIGGEST RISER AND ACCELERATING THE MOST UNFORTUNATELY - BUT NOT SURRISINGLY GIVEN ITS DOUBLING OF CASES IN THE PAST WEELK

If, as the ONS reckons, 4% of the English population currently has Covid rising to around 7% in London then you would think it will burn out rapidly. I cannot see anything other than a Chinese style total lockdown having anything more than a marginal effect on case numbers so one way or another we will get through the next month or so even if the NHS is stretched to the limit.

Once the NHS are on top of it and spring is coming, I think we should just run with it. Take it off the news everyday and take all restrictions away. I can’t see this ever going away fully but we must have some level of immunity from serious illness now as a nation or those fully jabbed and who have had it will have. It’s time to get back to normal and get rid of these isolation periods. If we need boosters every 6m then so be it. I’ll roll my sleeve up.

It’s become an obsession and it’s scared some people witless. Watching the news every day and seeing people with masks etc is just making it all worse. My mum probably had a life expectancy of 6 years at the start of this pandemic, tops. 33% of that has now gone and she hasn’t been out of the house more than three times in that time. She won’t be the only one either.

I know it won’t be the universal view on here but it’s the way I feel now after 2 years of this.

You are not wrong. No idea of her age but I was late 60s when this started. And now I feel like I am nearer 90. Cannot believe how much time has passed so quickly. It does whem you are older anyway as a day is subectively a smaller fraction of all the days you have experienced so it keeps passing quicker than ever.

Starting to think we might be in a position to do just that after another booster jab likely in Feb/Mar.

Then an annual one changed to match new variants as with flu.

But the absolute priority is to vaccinate the world not just ourselves. All future threats will come from the poorer nations if we do not do far more to get them immunised than we are right now.

Instead of fighting one another call a truce and get a global army together to airlift jabs to the poorer parts of the globe.

Might even bring the planet closer together doing something altruistic like that rather than argue and fight over politics.

If Covid has shown us anything it is that whatever our politics or national government the Earth is a tiny ball linked together by one eco system and we are all vulnerable to anything happenimg in places we might wish we could ignore.

The butterfly effect is very real and if we get away wth this one and do nothing about it we will be having the same arguments as a species in the near future when it might be much much worse than Covid.
