COVID Data Thread

UK CASES & DEATHS TODAY

178,250 cases - down both day to day (by 1506) and week to week (by 11,596)

149,405 in England - also down both on day (by 2901) and week (by 10,871)

229 deaths up from 203 last week

193 England up from 178 last week

1,811,239 pillar 1 & 2 tests - down over 200K on yesterday but UP 316 K on last week.

Probably post most data tomorrow because of the match but befre KO Zoe is interesting tday and matches the real cases in which NW is actually third again today behind South East and London though all from NW 21,015 via London 21,558 to SE 22,637 pretty flat and close together).

For the first time in a while today Zoe predicted cases FALLS from 208,472 to 203,925 after several days of the rise slowing. This coincides with the first day over the same period when the UK and England reported cases actually fall both on the day and week to week.

Unlikely these are a coincdence.

Moreover NW seemingly having fallen and flattened quickly like London did on Zoe today remains top BUT also falls for the first time here too after several days of the rise slowing down as my posts reported- Today on 4117 / 4565 - from yesterday's 4133 / 4594.

Small acorns but a start. And all these measures aligning is good to see on the day when the Enland hospital numbers patients and ventilated showed positie signs of heading the right way too.

May yet go pear shaped but Zoe and the real cases have been in strng alignment for a while so this looks hopeful.

As the graph below shows the ongoing symptomatic cases - whilst still rising (they will be a week or so behnd daily numbers) ARE now also clearly slowing. Today they are only up by 37 K to 2,672,293. This number was 52K and 59 K in the past two days - the gap clearly lowering.

When all the signs align it is promising.

ENGLAND REGIONAL CASES

Numbers back up today but not to their heights of two days ago,

REGION TODAY - UP/DOWN - V SEVEN DAYS AGO

SOUTH EAST 22,637 - UP from 19,946 V 25,780 - two weeks ago was 17,638

HOSPITAL PATIENTS UP IN WEEK 337 TO 1606 - UP 40 TODAY

LONDON 21,558 - DOWN from 21.854 V 22,727 - two weeks ago was 26,342 - very slow falls but patients in hospital here have been dropping now for a day or two so these are translating into that area happily

HOSPITAL PATIENTS UP IN WEEK 353 TO 3989 - DOWN 64 TODAY

NORTH WEST 21,015 - DOWN from 25,971 V 22,977 - two weeks ago was 16,529

North West down day to day and week to week as the southern regions did that quickly but have since stayed more or less at the same lower level since. And like London are up 5000 or so on two weeks ago.Was the main driver of hospital rises but whilst still going up the numbers have slowed.

HOSPITAL PATIENTS UP IN WEEK 957 TO 2899 - UP 20 TODAY (The increase in patients here has been decreasing all week and was 419 on Monday)

WEST MIDLANDS 16,384 - DOWN from 18,305 V 15,250 - two weeks ago was 6799 - The midlands are rising the most at the moment much as NW did last week. Also had the most patients in hospital yesterday supporting the link with this part of the data. But given the above is likely not to keep climbing and flatten off soon.

HOSPITAL PATIENTS (NB THIS IS FOR WEST & EAST MIDLANDS COMBINED AS ONLY THE GOV UK FOR CASES SPLITS THIS REGION IN TWO) UP IN WEEK 821 TO 2943 - 61 TODAY

YORKSHIRE 15,711 - UP from 15,699 V 18,697 - two weeks ago was 6664 - Very similar track to the Midlands and rising in hospital patients and admissions too - but like the others not escalating fast

HOSPITAL PATIENTS (NB THIS IS FOR YORKSHIRE & NORTH EAST COMBINED AS ONLY THE GOV UK FOR CASES SPLITS THIS REGION IN TWO) UP IN WEEK 775 TO 2419 - JUST 2 TODAY

EAST 14,739 - UP from 14,245 V 17,117 - two weeks ago was 11,001

HOSPITAL PATIENTS UP IN WEEK 357 TO 1440 - UP 31 TODAY

GREATER MANCHESTER CASES FRIDAY

TOTAL 8922

DOWN by 258 from 9180 yesterday

NW Total 21,015

DOWN by 4956 from 25,971 yesterday

GM 42.4% of the NW total today. Well up from 35% yesterday and day before - though close to the expected average and where GM was last week.

MANCHESTER 1461 - DOWN 80 on day & DOWN 75 on week - Pop Score 263* to enter the 25K club
(POP 25,066) * Lowest Pop Score today which looks odd but these are all within 100 of one another today as the GM boroughs have squeezed together in past 2 weeks.

WIGAN 1205 - UP 27 on day & UP 20 on week - Pop Score 364* to also enter the 25 K club.
(POP 25,303) * Highest Pop Score Today

STOCKPORT 953 - UP 140 on day & DOWN 203 on week - Pop Score 324. (POP 24,502)

BOLTON 943 - UP 132 on day & 173 on week - Pop Score 327 still only occupant of 23K club but lost another 3 points to Stockport (POP 23,528) Lowest Pop Score in GM across the pandemic - But lost 3 to Stockport today to be 'just' 974 ahead not exactly in danger of losing the lead!

SALFORD 893 - DOWN 57 on day & DOWN 108 on week - Pop Score 340 (POP 26,357) Highest Pop Score across the pandemic - not under threat as 1054 ahead of Wigan in second

OLDHAM 753 - DOWN 100 on day & UP 106 on week - Pop Score 317. Closed the gap by 7 on Stockport notice. A product of Oldham imprtoving and Stockport having been very high for weeks though doing better at present like all of GM (POP 24,684)

TAMESIDE 748 - DOWN 55 on day & DOWN 13 on week. Pop Score 330 to enter the 25K club (POP 25,088)

ROCHDALE 744 - DOWN 133 on day & UP 89 on week. Pop Score 332 to enter the 25K club (POP 25,139) * Highest pop score in GM today

TRAFFORD 637 - DOWN 118 on day & 154 on week - BEST PERFORMER TODAY - but Pop Score of 269 means yet another to enter the 25K club today - FIVE at once! (POP 25,209)

BURY 585 - DOWN 14 on day & UP 57 on week. Pop Score 307 - only a good day here stopped it being six into the 25K club at once! (POP 24,932)

something which is in no way linked to the difficulty in getting tested?
This was discussed both here and the other thread over past two days and I often post the test numbers here as they indicate positivity numbers. Tests take 3 or 4 days to pass down the chain to the actual reported number which though ascribed to the day before often is across those few days - though they have speeded up the process a bit given the issue of delay with a fast moving variant like Omicron.

It is why the Pop Scores I post here are different from the ones the media use. They allow for the test lag and so are giving you numbers as they were 5 days ago. In these days I think that is not helpful as we need to know what the score is now not last week.

These very often show trends the press take days to catch on to.

Nobody is yet reporting the NW and GM falling. But it is. So they will. But by then it might even be going up again. Though hopefully not.

THIS VIDEO IS FASCINATING AS IT RUNS THROUGH THE WHOLE PANDEMIC BY DATE SHOWING WHERE CASES RISE AND FALL AS THE WAVES UNFOLD

THE DIFFERENT DATES SHOW YOU THE IMPACT BEFORE AND AFTER OMICRON ARRIVED PRE CHRISTMAS IN THE LAST TWO OR THREE SECONDS OF THE SECOND VISUAL WHICH COVERS THE MOST RECENT DATA

Record numbers of tests this week with over two million some days.

So no, that isn't it.

A number of people I know have given up testing because of the lack of availability. My son and his partner both are ending their quarantine periods both failed a pcr but have not been able to get an LFT. They haven't reported anything to the govt so unless their employers are doing so theres two unrecorded positives
