The Office for National Statistics said around 1.4 million people in the UK had COVID in the week ending December 16, which was the highest number since comparable figures began in autumn 2020.

Around one in 45 people in private households in England also had COVID in the week to December 16, which was up from one in 60 the previous week.

TODAY'S ZOE GRAPH OF THE RISE OF OMICRON (MAYBE THE NEXT STAR WARS MOVIE TITLE!) - THAT VERTICAL LINE ON THERIGHT OVER PAST WEEK IS STILL GETTING STEEPER - BIGGEST EVER DAILY RISE TODAY

THEY ARE GOING TO NEED A BIGGER GRAPH TO FIT IT ON ANY DAY NOW - AS IT WILL LIKELY TOP THE 1.6 MILLION ONGOING CASES SCALE TOMORROW IT IS 1,549,676 TODAY - MOST EVER BY MILES OBVIOUSLY - UP 64,393 IN PAST 24 HOURS

PREDICTED CASES REPORTED TODAY - 151,245 - ANOTHER NEW RECORD - UP 6960 ON YESTERDAY

This is great news herd immunity here we come

The Zoe ongoing cases almost exactly matches the ONS data of over 2% of the population having Covid right now. Which is good to know that instead of once a week we can have a pretty reliable day to day check on these numbers.

SCOTLAND DATA

GOOD LUCK WITH WORKING OUT HOW MANY ACTUAL CASES SHOULD BE TODAY.

NB:-

SCOTLAND REPORTED YESTERDAY THEY WERE INVESTIGATING A DATA ISSUE AND BOY WAS THERE ONE. THEY SAY YESTERDAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN 5967 - NOT THE 2434 CASES REPORTED - SO THEY WERE ONLY 3533 OUT!

HOWEVER, TODAYS NUMBER DOES NOT INCLUDE THAT NUMBER IT IS A WHOPPER ON ITS OWN - THAT EXTRA 3533 HAS JUST BEEN ADDED TO THE COLLECTIVE TOTAL NOT TODAYS.

NOT SURE IF GOV UK WILL UPDATE YESTERDAY'S NUMBER BUT IT TRULY WAS 109,655 NOT THE RECORD 106,122 AS REPORTED ON ALL THE NEWS TODAY. NOT SURE IF MOST MEDIA WILL CATCH ONTO THAT.

ANYHOW TODAY's 'ACCURATE' NUMBERS ARE:-

11 deaths - was 18 last week

6215 cases - was 5951 last week - BUT SEE THE NOTE ABOVE AS THE DELAYS IN TESTING COMING BACK GO ON

12.7% positivity - was 10.8% last week

540 patients - was 536 yesterday & 534 last week

38 ventilated - was 40 yesterday & 34 last week

HOSPITAL NUMBERS ARE RISING AGAIN AND UP WEEK TO WEEK FOR FIRST TIME IN A WHILE BUTNOT AS YOU SEE AS YET BY MUCH GIVEN THE HUGE RECENT CASE NUMBERS

From Yesterday despite cases up over 1000

0-19 DOWN 23 FROM 4440

20 - 39 Up 1000 again - almost all the rising numbers are in this age group daily

40 - 59 up 214

60 - 79 up 70 - most in a while here

80 Plus - DOWN 2 !

This is still pretty good news given the big rise in cases. But with the rise in care home numbers statting now we need to watch where this goes.
