Can a conspiracy theorist catch COVID? considering “it isn’t even a virus”

I told one loon on a discussion on a mate's FB at the weekend that Covid doesn't discriminate and it even kills Covid deniers. I also told her that if it was a hoax then she surely wouldn't have an issue with doing an eight hour shift on a Covid ward - minus PPE of course because being a denier, she wouldn't need it anyway - and bet her my mortgage, my pension, and every penny I've got that she wouldn't take up the offer. Needless to say, she didn't take the bet. In fact, that one about the shift on a Covid ward stumps them every time, and I've yet to find a single tin foil hat wearer who is prepared to do it.

Been a hard week for finding out who (limited circle) has had covid:

latest was neighbour, woman 30’s - very careful and has to be for multiple reasons (not for herself)... recovering slowly.

prior to that it was work colleague - lost an aunt and brother (old), but the worst was hearing about an occasional contractor for us - in the space of 2 weeks, lost both parents and got it himself. :-0

I’ve no issue whatsoever with any COVID deniers or those that refuse to wear face masks or follow the rules.

It’s a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The government should simply pass a law saying they won’t get treated at the tax payers expense in our hospitals. Why would they mind because it’s all a hoax as some random “wanna get me famousdoctor or professor (whom may not have a masters or PhD in a science subject at all) said it was. Take them off furlough while your at it.

Although they are happy to call the rest of us sheep and say “do your own research” well unless they have actually done their own masters level or above research on the subject not just a twisted critic of the evidence then one might be inclined to say polish thy own mirror ya bonkers ****

I had some clown tell me it was all a scam because he’d had COVID and because he didn’t have any symptoms so he knew what he was talking about. I mentioned I had had a headache but wouldn’t consider myself a leading authority on the human brain. He helpfully then told me that there was no scientific evidence to support these anti-COVID measure. What like there is no evidence to support the ability of a contagious virus to transmit between people is reduced with distance? I always thought I didn’t get Ebola because I didn’t live there, seems I was wrong.

Fucking hell - the state of some people! If he brings it up again, it might be worth telling him that if it was designed to kill the old and sick then why are they the ones who are being given the vaccine first!

This is normal for any vaccines. There is always a risk of adverse reactions.

You could get a list of people who’ve had adverse reactions to paracetamol after taking them to relieve a head ache in the last week.

You could get a list of people who’ve drowned from swallowing a simple drink of water down the wrong hole.

Someone died recently from eating cherry stones. Cherry stones have cyanide in them but we still give them to our kids all the time. I love cherries!

Over 1,000 people a year due falling down their own stairs.

Barely anything in life doesn’t come without risk. People shove utter shite into their face, into their lungs, and do no exercise at all. That lifestyle is slowly killing them every second of the day.

At least with a vaccine, the overall achievement is herd immunity. There will be downsides with people having reactions or even dying from it, but the vast majority won’t and the overall aim will be reached to save far more lives than will die from there being no vaccine and far far more than will die from the vaccine.

Vaccine comparison update - a few European countries plus US as comparisons. Israel remains way ahead of anyone else.

Looks like the UK has significantly accelerated in the last week compared to continental Europe - I'm guessing the Oxford/AZ vaccine is what has enabled this. Europe now has Moderna approval and supplies I believe, which will only come here later. EMA indicating they will complete assessment of the Oxford/AZ vaccine Jan 29th.

I think UK figures will come daily from now on.
