Dangerous Dogs

Ah I’ve heard of them but don’t know much of them. I got blasted the other week for my mates pooch, a very mild mannered Staffie. She was on lead, as I never let my dogs off, and some silly woman told me the dog was a baby killer and should be destroyed.

A quick laugh in her face and an ask to explain her reasoning for berating me and the dog saw he shift off. The media doesn’t help.

I remain in the camp of, there are no bad dogs just bad owners. I DO think some breeds you should have to have a licence or something similar to prove you know how to handle/care for them. This XL Bully malarkey, I’ve owned dogs all my life, some big and some small, I wouldn’t know how to handle such a big dog, but then I also wouldn’t be sure how to handle a Great Dane.
The working Pat' is bred to kill foxes. I wouldn't recommend them for an inexperienced dog owner as they have a lot of weird character traits.
Mine's from a litter of seven, 5 of which are working in the highlands. The runt became a pub dog and is a gentle little thing (fantastic ratter though).
Mine attacked my mates 2 american bulldogs at once when he was younger so he is never off the lead if other dogs around apart from his sister. In the wrong hands he could've easily become very aggressive but 6 years of caution and patient training have made him a brilliant family pet, fantastic guard dog and proper fanny magnet..

I'd be nervous if I saw someone like her trying to walk two dogs like that, she must weigh no more than 8 stone and seemingly has a high centre of gravity. No chance if those dogs decide to misbehave and every dog will do that at some point.
hahahahaha 'high centre of gravity'

I wonder how @Bill Walker stumbled across this story.....

I doubt those dogs were getting enough exercise either. If you have larger breds from a working heritage then they generally a lot of exercise to keep them chilled out and not irritable. Which suggests they were if the excessive barking reports were more than the exaggerations of miserable moaners.

Rotties were originally bred to tow carts so they need more than a short walk around the park.

Well that's my new go-to phrase for pointing out someone with a nice rack.

It's the morons who abuse and train the dogs that need banning
I have never owned a dog and have read this forum with interest..I think Franny makes a good point but realistically defining a moron is somewhat difficult.Equally if morons are stopped from such ownership I would imagine not many people would own one ,so a good argument, but not practical. I imagine some of these dogs are kept in very cramped conditions and perhaps not walked or exercised sufficiently and so become frustrated and snap.I went for a cycle ride and what I would define as a normal dog was on an extended lead and snapping at my ankles. Surely these leads are inappropriate as if they stretch to 10 metres I imagine legally OK, but if they are on a lead yet can still run away some distance the dog is not under control.Personally do get scared by cycling or walking close to some of these muscular dogs. Then some other bloke in the news today having his throat ripped out by one of these Bully dogs. To the average non dog owner, they can be terrifying.

That's much of the problem. People don't understand what their specific breed requires in terms of exercise and mental stimulation. Some dogs are happy lying at home all day, others need a tremendous amount of exercise and/or mental stimulation to keep them satisfied. If the dog's needs aren't met, then the dog often turns destructive.

No point getting a Bulldog or Neapolitan Mastiff if you want company on long runs and likewise getting a Red Setter/Dalmation etc if you just want to laze at home.

It's a shame that many owners don't do their research and end up with a dog that really doesn't suit their lifestyle at all.

Youre only halfreet knares...theyve got the dog for them...you thinking thier dog may eat ya gets you thinking about them..its a narcs paradise. Cant remember whose quote it was but ' a narcissist will accidently kill you' is very on point.

Brian plummer bred a better type of xl bully bollox decades back...by recreating the extinct Alaunt ...crossing the greyhound ( the perfect breeding pool) into the mastiff. Nobody was eaten cause sighthound blood levels most types...they just never took off cause of lack of need.
Nowadays in this instagram age an alaunt would be deemed to be found wanting...hence folk have found the need to splash two lots of bull blood together..

Old adage in dog world " no good dog is a bad colour"

People in this thread quoting what the fucking kennel club have to say about dangerous dogs...wow...youd be better off asking mickey duff.

Just the latest in a long line of Rotty attacks here.

February 21, 2023 - A heartbreaking social media post has emerged, uploaded before a five-week-old baby girl died after she was suddenly attacked by two rottweilers who pounced on her without reason at a family barbecue.

In November last year, a two-year-old boy was mauled to death by two Rottweiler dogs at a Cowra motel in the NSW Central West.

Four years earlier, a 1-year-old baby was killed when a Rottweiler attacked her while being pushed in a pram in Inverell in the state’s northwest.

A 10-month-old baby was killed after being attacked by the family’s two Rottweilers while the child’s father left them unattended for just a moment to do a quick chore.

There are recent calls to ban the breed here.

It's becoming a huge issue here, like those Bully dogs in the UK.

I don't really understand why people want big powerful dogs that can kill but maybe I'm weird.

Anyway I don't want to argue about it but I'm sure our resident expert on just about anything and everything Mr Koyabashi will be eagerly typing about why these Rottweiler dogs attack and kill people and how it's always the owners fault.

I have read no reports of child deaths or vicious attacks from poodles, spaniels, cavoodles, corgis, sausage dogs or smaller type dogs like that.

A rottweiler is just a german mastiff.
All mastiffs by nature are non aggressive, if they are then they have been made this way by bad owners, that wish for them to act like that as it isn't natural to their behaviour.
I have an english mastiff, 10 stone and an absolute coward. She hides if a dog barks at her but I'm now finding that people are shunning us because of her size and it's ridiculous.
All dogs should be on leads in a public space. I'm sick to the back teeth of people letting their dogs run around bothering people and their dogs.
My dog is never off her lead and I don't let other dogs approach her either as she's been attacked numerous times....usually by huskies.

Not surprised to hear of more people killed and maimed by the dogs in the press, or Rottweilers. It's the usual story - the owners say they wouldn't hurt a fly then they kill someone.

I just find it astonishing we STILL have people who want to own dogs that are more than capable of killing people, especially children. I've said it before, but the law needs to make those who own them responsible for them - if the dog kills, the owner is tried on the basis they did it and they potentially face years in HMP. Let's see how many want to own these kinds of dogs then. Simple as that for me, we have far too many people in the country who won't accept any responsibility and it's about time they faced up to their actions.

There's a family in a council house on the way to my sons school that homes 3 kids. They have a large dog which has a deep bark and looks to my eye like a big, powerful dog - maybe. It's in a tiny front yard and barks at whoever passes and looks like the kind of animal that the owners say "won't hurt a fly" and will main someone. They are so pig-shittingly thick that they don't understand that it could jump over the small fence and go and attack another families kids.

I feel sorry for the children having to live with that kind of animal.

Spot on.

Goes for any dogs n’all. If a Yorkshire Terrier bites a kid, the owner should face punishment by law. If an XL bully tries to or does kill someone, the owner should face the requisite charges as well as the dog being shot.

Let’s see how many people then have dogs of any kind in the first place…

Our parks will be there for us to enjoy and not just dog pissing and shitting grounds, there won’t be as many dogs pissing on our car wheels or garden gates as the owners trot off with their dog not swilling it off and leaving that horrible smell behind, there won’t be as many little bags of shit hung up on trees or slung behind bushes, there won’t be as many getting in the way on pavements with owners on one side of the pavement and the dog on the other with their trip wire between them, there won’t be as many yapping little cunts who never shut the fuck up all Summer long…

I do like a lot of dogs’ temperaments but I find the number of them in our society a fucking nuisance to be honest. Then there are the dangerous ones!

I've already mentioned Rotties in the thread. If they injure and kill people at the same rate as the XL Bully, they should be banned too. That applies to all breeds.

Maybe post the Rottie problem in an Australian based forum and you might get more interest?

And for parents of kids too.

I was more interested in the puppies on show in your link :)

You really don't like dogs do you.

Some dogs particularly sporting and working type breeds don't get enough exercise unless you let them off the lead or take them for 3-4 hour walk each day.

Most people don't have time for the latter.

Dogs should only be off the lead if under control and responsive to recall. But if they are then there shouldn't be a problem.

A husky is a ridiculous dog for urban areas, 2 hrs minimum exercise a day. It's no wonder that almost every one of them is an aggressive irritable bugger.
