There's really no rush to do a medical is there. If it's all in hand, why have him backwards and forwards. Medical might wait until we go to America?

So you think we announce this tomorrow? Deal done subject to medical.

I'm wondering when City's players meet up, because I think we are going on the States pretty soon. Sky had us down as returning to pre-season training on 10th July when most clubs are back next week.

It's definitely the 10th of July, a week on Monday.

Odd thought... but maybe Pep will think about using Alves as his "regista" like he did with Lahm at Bayern, now that Alves is getting on. He has the ball control and technique to play that role, and he's an intelligent footballer too.

Walker Stones Kompany Mendy
Alves
KDB Silva

Odd thought. But with a regista, pivot, and sweeper keeper have we room for any proper positions.

Imagine at the wedding there'll be a table for each set of former teammates who want him to join their club. Over here Leo, over here.

Yes, wing backs, inverted wingers and a false 9.

Yes, I can imagine pep." You're regista today; take it from the sweeps keeper, play it short to Yaya, who is pivot, and bernando you are false 9, interchanging with both inverteds.

Almost back to the 2 3 5 we played at primary.

I would fully expect Alves to sign early next week. He's said his farewell to his family, then attended Messi's wedding. Next destination Manchester.

I think the problem here is with the understanding of the word "proper."

I am of the opinion that all of the above are proper. Albeit not traditionally English.

He does play 235. 235 was a lazy way of saying 2323. When the teams were printed in programmes lining up 235, the game used to be played with 2 inside forwards, 8 and 10, who were deeper than the wingers and cf. There were 3 half backs, right, centre and left, and two full backs. Traditionally in the UK, before my time, the centre half back, who wore 5, was known as the pivot and was often the best player. A lot of what Guardiola does is old-fashioned but this thread isn't really the place for that. But the pivot is an old, very English, name for the centre half.

Correct, and we played that regularly last season, with players not really suited to it, even then when it clicked, it was very good, with the right players, when it clicks we are going to really hurt teams. It also flexes very well into a 523 when defending against better sides and again with the right players will make us hard to beat, and very good on the counter attack with a lot more pace.

I have to have a little smile when these fanboys go on about Pep's pivot. It's a case of back to the future. Again, well before my time. But not my Dad's. RIP.
