Re: Agger Bid

Reasons why Mancini would want Agger:

He's very comfortable on the ball and has a pretty good passing range.

Will Daniel throw in a transfer request today maybe? :)

Re: Agger Bid

Keep him injury free rotating him in the defence with Lescott and he'll be a fantastic buy. Very solid defender.

Re: Agger Bid

Agger is a brilliant player and probably the only CB I would want us to buy from the prem. I don't think the naysayers will be naysayers for long once he came.

@SkySportsPeteO: Sky Sports understands Liverpool have rejected two offers from Manchester City for defender Daniel Agger. #LFC #MCFC http://t.co/uQoiA6YW

If this is true and we've actually made bids then we must have had some encouragement from the player or his agent.

Transfer request gotta come then.

Mancini looking to play 3 centre backs with overlapping fullbacks............

Re: Agger Bid

Agger is class. He is better than Lescott (and i rate Lescott), especially on the ball.

Only problem is that he has a bad injury record but if we can sort that out. He would be a top signing for the next 5-6 years.

We have some really young defenders in Rekik, Savic (to some extent) and others....so it makes sense to buy someone more experienced.

He made 33 League appearances last season despite his injury record.

Re: Agger Bid

It'd be stupid to change Lescott and Kompany as our first choice centre backs with the way they performed defensively with Joe Hart last season.

I do agree though Agger would be an excellent acquisition. Not first choice though, until Lescott starts getting a bit older.

Re: Agger Bid

Agger would be perfect to start phasing Lescott out as he gets older and we're looking onto either Savic (if he starts impressing enough) and eventually, hopefully, Rekik.

Re: Agger Bid

Lescott is in his prime, next season is not one we should be 'phasing him out'.

I guess its a nice problem to have, if we're going to challenge for the League and Domestic/Euro cups then we need strength in depth.

I think with Boyata and Richards able to cover when needed, that another 'key' CB could upset things at the back. Its not really a position you look to rotate often.

Re: Agger Bid

Don't see what the issue is with having Lescott and Agger. As was proven last year it is a long season and this year we want to go further in the cups. Having Agger, Kompany and Lescott as the main three with Savic, Boyata and Rekik in behind is a perfect balance of centre backs.

We need another top class one and I for one would love it to be Agger.

I have no confidence in Boyata what so ever. If we have a situation where Kolo goes and Komps and Lescott miss out through injury. A pairing of Savic and Boyata.

*Shudders*

Re: Agger Bid

I don't think there was a point last season where i thought 'we could really do with another CB'.

When Savic wasn't up to it, Richards filled in. It was only a couple of games, not enough to warrent a signing like Agger who should be playing week in week out when fit.

I'm not a fan personally of rotating CB's, Lescott and Kompany really grew into a great patnership last season, rotating would only lead to more goals conceeded imo.

-- 31 Jul 2012, 11:23 --

I'm a fan of Boyata - he really impressed being thrown in for his debut. His temprement is fantastic for a man (boy) of his age, he's comfortable on the ball and can only improve greatly. I'd have him ahead of Savic.

Bolton seem to like to try and ruin our prospects, he should have been playing CB for them.

The situation you've described, whilst i agree is scary, is one we really should struggle to account for. You'd want 4 top class CB's in the squad, so when Kompany and Lescott are fit Agger and A. Nother are benched? It just wouldn't work...

Especially if Bob is going to play 3-5-2 in some matches, as seems likely from the pre-season formations.

Re: Agger Bid

As fans of our club we understandably show tremendous loyalty to our existing players.
However if we want to win the CL we will have to upgrade in some positions.
I love Lescott, he is a great character and tremendous in the PL against the likes of Stoke but would Real or Barca be looking to recruit him?
In CL football the demands are greater and IMO we will have to acquire suitable players if we want to win it.

I see it as 3 top class defenders. So if 2 are out then at least we have 1 other to play alongside an inexperienced kid rather than 2 kids. Last season Kolo played 20 games and missed 3 months due to the ban and ACON. We are now looking to progress in the CL. There are plenty of games for 3 top class defenders.
