My favourite player growing up.

Me and my dad almost ended up giving him a lift to the game when we saw him stranded at the side of the A57 on match day. The Wally couldn't get the filler cap off his new BMW and had nearly run out of fuel. Luckily his father-in-law was on his way to pick him up, and without a moment to spare. If he'd have been there 10 minutes later he'd have probably jumped in.

Correct April 1st 1990.....(Just goes to show how often we used to win away from home that you can remember the date)That was our first away win in the top flight in nearly 60 games!

I think it had been postponed for fog (?) earlier in the season, and was on a midweek evening.

Yep, that sounds about right now I think about it was one full season, when we went down plus from Jan the previous season, then start of the season until Apr of the first season back in the top flight.

Fastest player I’ve ever seen. And people are correct, he didn’t seem to be the same after his England game. That goal off the underside of the crossbar against Liverpool was my favourite and his cross for Hinchcliffe’s fifth against United was a peach. One of my favourites was Whitey. He used to get a bit of stick if I remember because he wasn’t the greatest of finishers.

One of my favourite players from back in the day. I can remember him starting on the left versus the dippers after Machin got sacked - looked quite good there even though we were beaten 1-4 by a Molby inspired Liverpool.

Also remember him playing up front and scoring versus Derby after Coton saw red and Niall went in goal. He put in a real shift that day.
