the bundesliga has been miles better in regards to quality compared to the premier league in recent years.

hhaahahahahaha.

SPL and MLS are bobbins - Bundesliga is pretty respectable.

It's not as good as the Prem but it's decent enough to get an idea. He hits a dangerous ball & is different to what we have. He is also flawed but he is young, & might have been a player to open up Palace for instance.

Good news/update....I think so!

Manchester City have emerged as the favourites to sign ex-Chelsea player Kevin de Bruyne for a reported £45million transfer fee.

City are set to overhaul their squad this summer after a disappointing campaign and they have highlighted the Belgian as their top transfer target, according to The Times.

De Bruyne, 23, left Chelsea in an £18million deal to join Wolfsburg in January 2014 and has been in sensational form in the Bundesliga this season scoring nine and assisting 17 goals.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich had been linked with the Belgian winger but it is City who are likely to seal his signature.

Don't think he'll cost that... the Germans are fairly reasonable and their sporting director himself said they won't talk unless an offer of around £35m comes in. So even if they want higher than that, I'd be surprised if it reached £45m. BTW the article in The Times by Rory Smith uses the wording: "Manchester City have emerged as favourites to sign Kevin de Bruyne, the Wolfsburg and Belgium playmaker, if, as expected, the 23-year-old leaves Germany this summer."

£35 million is about €50 million - seems about fair to me.

The chances of Wolfsberg turning down a €50 million bid is extremely unlikely IMO.

De Bruyne would be well worth it, absolutely quality player.

Still he's the kind of player we need. Our lack of goals especially from the midfield is what's doing us in. Even if overpriced he has the potential to be worth what Hazard or Di Maria is. We wouldn't have to be so reliant on Silva trying to create either. Silva could sit a little deeper and try to control the midfield while De Bruyne can be further up aiding in the attack.

Volkswagen to cut Wolfsburg funding

German car company Volkswagen are set to slash their funding for Wolfsburg from €80 million a year to €30m.

so maybe they will sell

also, how come no one mentions such a big related party deal?

If this is true then surely signing De Bruyne will be more feasible.

Saw him play v Napoli tonight and was useless. Watched bits of Sevilla game and Denis Suarez looked impressive.

The whole team was useless tonight, just an overall bad team performance.

He is still on his way to becoming a world class number ten.

Here is a question for those who watch both Koke and De Bruyne frequently:

we know that Koke is versatile. He is a CM but mostly plays out wide for Atletico. He is good on set pieces, his crossing is decent. His work rate and graft are his biggest assets IMO

De Bruyne on the other hand is more an AM who can play out wide. Also good at set pieces and crossing. But in recent games he has shown a criminal lack of work rate (inter, the game for belgium when they were down to ten) which is probably no better (or worse) than Nasri. He does have the better goals+assists stats

Now, with Koke, you'd probably see something like this (for the moment ignore whether we can get the other players or not)

--------Gundogan/Fernandinho-------
----------Pogba-------------Koke----------
Silva------------------------Sterling/Bale

which can easily become:

--------Pogba---Gundogan/Fern----------
Koke----------Silva----------Sterling/Bale

with De Bruyne, we will likely see:

--------Pogba---Gundogan/Fern----------
De Bruyne---Silva----------Sterling/Bale

If you had to choose between the two, who'd you get?

wasnt he out wide today?

also as my post above, his work rate recently has been very very poor

Koke hands down.

We have other options to get wide players/wingers but very rarely can players equal the attacking and defensive work rate that Koke has and the various different positions he can play. You need someone like that in your starting line up.

Him or Pogba would be as close to a Yaya replacement as I think we're going to see. He should be one of our top targets this summer.

Same not sold on him .... after this season, I want to be sure we're not signing any more fancy dans who are great when the team is winning but lack determination to roll sleeves up when we need to dig in a and fight ....
