De Bruyne?

hope the latest round of media reports this week ends up not coming to fruition.

Sterling, KDB and Pogba to Alex Song and another year of an older unmotivated Yaya Toure is not enough to reclaim the title.

I know what you mean. We can find alternatives to KDB if we have to. There aren't many players that have pace and will create and score so many - certainly not for the same price. Many offer a combination of one or other but not all of those. Sterling for example needs to work on his goal scoring. Reus isn't going to ghost past players, he's more like Nasri with trickery on the ball... it's a tough one.

It's never long before a player of KDB's ilk comes along though. He's an exciting talent and though prices are hugely inflated these days I think he's worth the money. Looking at the fee the rags paid for Depay - who is a much bigger risk - I think it's worth it.

As good as Pogba and Sterling are, there are always alternatives. You only have to look at Andre Gomes, Verratti even if we wanted to be really offensive. As for wingers, Reus, Brahimi, etc

When you look at comments like this does anyone else think the quality of players on the market is actually lower this year?

When you think Suarez, Bale, Neymar, Ozil, Di Maria (not saying he's exactly shone), Sanchez, Rodriguez, Kroos were all on the move in the last couple of years now the biggest buys are Pogba, De Bruyne and Sterling (although I do believe Griezmann to be the best on the market) imo it's a step down from proven class to largely raw potential + one excellent season.

... so why are people so worked up about flappers?
They have form. The last few summers have seen us linked with players who were said to be "in the bag" yet the windows turned out to be a sad let down. It's about time we turned back the clock and really got back to the days when we were signing players of the quality of Aguero and Yaya instead of the benchwarmers that we actually ended up with.

this just confirms the true purpose and damage done by FFP. Without the constraints we could have looked at all of those players, all of whom are under 27, or under.
