Am I still asleep? This thread surely cannot be real!!

I know people have there own opinions but Christ I've never seen a thread where people are so wrong.

His agent isn't Kia, he's far from a mercenary and he played a pivotal role in our recent success.

Its him that helped set up the FA cup final goal, yayas two against Newcastle and of course sergios v qpr.

Some fans really need to open their eyes.

where's that clapping guy gif when you need him.

he is a quality player.

very very valuable member of the squad.

not an automatic starter by any means , but he has had , and will have a part to play

so thats vinny, lescott, gaz baz and zab as well as de jong and tevez.

yep that would make sense.

its fucking frightening on here at times.

kia yes but ffs.

I wasn't talking about Hughes' signings Bill. More on about those that caused trouble when Mancini came in. Given, Bellamy, Ade, De Jong, Tevez (the most high profile) all decided to cause a stir. The others you mentioned were professional about it and got on board with the new boss

All chose Hughes over the new manager and for that, they had to go. De Jong and Tevez are the last ones left (RSC being as good as out)

The power that Hughes had in the media with his pals has been the driving force behind the crap we've had to read for getting on 30 months now

De Jong the mercenary.

In purely footballing terms I think De Jong is the best at what he does in the world. If it was 10 years ago he'd be a guaranteed starter, probably for Real Madrid.

Football had evolved though and the 'Makelele' position is used less and less with the progression to 2 central midfielders with 3 attacking midfielders ahead.

De Jong is slightly too limited for one of these 2 positions, Barry isn't and that's why he got the nod last season. De Rossi would be the perfect fit IMO but while Barry is still performing, I see no need to change things

If he sees his contract out and goes on a free i would say thanks and wish him well.

He was here from the start of our new beginning and played a big part in our success. The team is playing differently now and therefore his role is not as important as it was and his chances limited.

Never forget he used to be one of the first names on the teamsheet once and he has always given his all for the cause.I still remember his crunching tackle against Chelsea at home when he took two of their players out at once.

He will always be remembered with great affection by me whatever his decision.

He will always be remembered by me as an overated footballer.
Why - because he's leaving?

He's the best in the world at breaking up opposition play and you know it.

This.

Is big nige limited and one dimensional? You bet your ass he is. I know it, you know it, and Mancini knows it. But like others have said he is amongst the best in the world at what he does. We are a better team then when he first got here and he is not needed as much, but there are still times when we will need an anchorman midfield enforcer in our squad. If nige leaves we are weaker as a team imo

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

Why shouldn't he run down his contract?
If city wanted him to stay longer they should have given him a longer contract. However, they wouldn't/didn't do it because if the player turns out to be shit (Bridge, Santa Cruz etc) we are stuck with them and paying their wages for a longer time than we would like, why should it be just the club who doesn't take the risks?

De Jong the mercenary.

It's true that there is a need for a purely defensive midfielder in certain games but I don't think you can keep someone like De Jong on the bench for the majority of a season. Milner could fill that role if needed for 20 minute periods

I think De Jongs best is better than Barry, and with Gaz getting on now, getting rid of De Jong would be really short sighted. I'd offer him 85,000 a week, surely he'd be happy with that.
Bullshit better then Barry????, there´s a reason why Gareth started 31 games last season and Nigel just 11. Barry has a few good years in him and I personally rate Milner above Nigel. As far as his salaries goes I think (not sure) that he´s currently earning 65k a week and want´s a 100k if i´m not mistaken.

Actually De Jong made 29 appearances last year. 2010/2011 season, De Jong made over 40 appearances, so you can't tell me in the space of 12 months he has suddenly become a "bad player". Milner is not is the same class as De Jong mate, I highly doubt him or even Barry, wouldve played 63 appearances for Holland.

If Nige goes on to Bayern and makes say 40+ appearances, people will be left scratching there head wondering what we sold him for.
Here you go <a class="postlink" href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/382/season/2011/league/eng.1/manchester-city?cc=5739" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad ... ty?cc=5739</a>

Nige is not a bad player far from it, he´s just not as effective in the new system we play, as far as breaking up play he´s one the best in the world.

I see people writing he set up Yaya´s goal at Newcastle, Sergio did!! Same with the Qpr goal it was Balotelli. Yes he was a part of the goals but so were Lescott who won the header from the throw in and Edin who flicked the ball nicely to Nige. Calling him a "Mercenary" his harsh OP.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

I have no problem with any player deciding to run down a contract and leave at the end of it.

The same employment rights as anyone reading this forum has.

I've said all along that de jong is the most overpaid and overrated bang average and very limited one dimension defensive midfielder

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

If figures quoted in this thread are true,De Jong earns less than Wayne Bridge, yet since his arrival he has been a pivotal part of the team and the teams success, while Wayne Bridge has hardly contributed and is now plowing his trade at Brighton.

Nigel isn't one of the big earners, the club won't offer him a raise because he is no longer a guaranteed starter,so if he wants to run down his contract,we get one more year of effort from him and he gets to move on,it is win win for both us and him.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

On another note, if the thread title was a headline in The Mirror, Daily Mail, or Evening News there'd be a 500 page thread about it by now. Piss poor for any Blue to call De Jong a mercenary.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

De Jong is a very good player for us, look at the impact he made in the 2010/11 season.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

Lol at the OP.
When will people get it into their heads that to footballers this is just a job? Not one of our current squad went to bed at the age of ten in their City jimmy jams, infact some of them probably never heard of the club into we waved a huge wad of cash at them. That's fine though, because there are millions of companies out there who I have never heard of but if one of them were to wave x amount of pounds per week at me, they would be my new best friend too.
This is just a job, simple as that.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

To be fair i think NDJ is one of the best in the game in his role. he breaks down the opponents play and plays simple passes to the more creative players. he still plays a big part in our games, if in doubt..... bring NDJ on and push yaya up to get us a goal. always a good player to have on your bench. We can only let him go if we are getting some one like de rossi!!??

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

Well to be fair De Jong said from the very start that he see's City as a stepping stone. only way is down or sideways now though for players leaving City, it's his call

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

Think what this shows more than anything is how City have moved on. As well as people's expectations.

Seems to be split 50/50 whether he is even worth a place in the squad now.

This time last year when he was injured, virtually everyone was saying how much we're gonna miss him and many were saying he is THE most important player we've got.

Re: De Jong the mercenary.

They have been talking about Niges contract for a couple of years now, in my opinion he dropped a bollock not signing the first one he was offered when he was one of the first names on the team sheet, since then he has slipped down the order and as such the club won't give him what he considers he's worth as he's become a impact player for us, coming on and releasing YaYa into a more attacking role.
Personally would like to see him stay as I think against the more attacking champions league teams we need a player like this.
