Declan Rice

He could play Gundogan's role with time, or be one of the more conventional defenders.

I don't think there would be too much issue with game time if he joins.
I cant see him playing higher up like a 10 as Gundogan did.

He doesnt have that skillset.

Our first bid, we can go higher and West Ham will know it. Regardless of what Arsenal come back with, that will just move the ball in our court rather than stopping the race.

Surely Rice himself, like West Ham, would prefer not to pass off the fans who have adored him for years - and currently leaving on good terms - to go to a London side? When City are at the table too.

Its actually been talked about him being an 8 for a while. i actually dont think we get to see rice's true skillset under the managers hes playing under in moyes and southgate....... Also gundo when we signed him wasnt the player he is 9

Unless Club or Pep push Plillips out of door he is not going to leave at least for one more season then we will see.
And why would he leave? To play more? He could go to some others teams and play every game, this season he would play more if he didnt had injury.
Him leaving now to any other club in downgrade and everyone would say he is flop, he say how difficult is do learn City way of playing Grealish struggle first season and some others did to.
I don't think he didn't know or realized how much he needed to be ready for this City level mentally and physically.
At this club expectations are high you need to be ready at any moment and if you not someone else is and is going to take your place.
If he doesn't give 110% of himself this season to be part of a team, it could be over his City career by january.

Gündogan played less high than KDB, I think Rice could do a similar role - albeit not the same way Gündogan did. More of a shuttler and bulldozer.

That would just be one of a number of positions he could fill.

West ham and City respect each other, he's going somewhere that's for sure. If he signs for City he will get cheered on his return there but booed everywhere else by fans of other clubs aka Grealish etc.

I think he'll allow Rodri to play a bit further forward.

Or allow Kovacic to play a bit more forward.
Come on, you will not move out of position best defensive midfielder in the world to accomplish someone else.
For me he will play alongside Rodri or as 8 and we will change formation and if we get some fast winger we could be deadly on transition.

God only knows what Pep has planned but he's not shy of surprising us sometimes.
