Is it down to us to stop them at source? It seems to me that whilst their final choice of destination is the UK, some of the countries they pass through seem quite happy to facilitate their passage and we end up with dealing with the human misery. I can't imagination how deserate these people are that they would put themselves at such personal risk.
Sorry i mean the source being france

I genuinely think the criminal gangs who traffic them at times throughout their journey sell them this mystifying dream of UK life and they think they genuinely can massively improve their lives.

The reality is they will likely never own a home, have an NI number, be treated like dirt by an illegal employer and maybe end up in modern slavery conditions.
Europe seems happy to let us deal with the consequences.

If Patel can totally stop it being it being a possibility it will hopefully stop people attempting it.

Did i claim you did personally? The numbers coming by boat are a tiny amount of immigrants coming here ,not worth the gov setting the navy on them and talking like it is a national outrage, still it diverts attention

Yes you did.

It diverts from nothing. Today we have a dead boy washed up on the shores of France and its why it needs to be stopped before many more die.

It is no way to try and enter the UK to start a new life. Its dangerous, it feeds criminal gangs, it kills people.

I've already said, twice i think that the UK should pay for a centre in France along with the French so that people can present themselves for asylum and those granted can be brought here safely. In the meantime both we and the French should be doing everything possible to stop these boats.

Gotcha. It was a genuine q btw. I do believe that we should work with the French to resolve the issues. I'm not sure that just saying to France that they should stop the crossings but there needs to be a better way. (That last bit is a bit obvious so sorry for that)

we can't be seen to be working with France or any other part of the EU at the moment - it goes completely against the narrative that we are better off without them and don't need them for anything - thats the situation the Brexit crazies have got us into. They have to come to us to ask to help us which just is not going to happen.

Choh! Bloody foreigners. I hope that you are wrong but I fear you are correct. Utter madness. Ain't life cheap?

Not that migrants has anything to do with brexit of course.

It must have been brexit voters at fault for all those crossing the Med and all those crossing from North Africa.

Some very desperate and quite sad posters on here.

and despite what some were hollering only a few weeks ago they don't all matter
Short memories.
I seem to have been deep in the politics forum today and I can't say that my my mood has been improved. We need some funny pet gifs or something to cheer us up.
Still homemade Thai curry for supper and first attempt at sticky rice.
