Drinking on your own in a pub

I love it. If the next train isn't for 25 minutes or so, I'll nip to the Bulls Head or Waldorf, grab a pint and have a read on the Kindle.

If it's been a bad day, I swear to God it relaxes you with every sip of the pint. No stupid chatter, just you, a pint and your own thoughts.

Been on an all dayer on my own once. Was hungover and walked past the local at about 1pm on a weekday so decided to go in for a hair of the dog and some food. Left there at 9pm having made friends with the regular retired people who go in, had a chat with them, the bar staff etc. It was brilliant.

I used to like it when I smoked but now not the same - just want to smoke!

I wouldn't think twice about drinking in a pub on my own ...

Just having a beer on my own in The Flag in Watford - got chatting to a Villa fan and met Sean - City season ticket holder - I bought him a beer - he bought me one - a very pleasant evening

Well done Villa

I reckon it's fair to say I've probably walked in more pubs on my own than anyone else on this board.

Do you fix fruit machines for a living then? (Self Employed)

Used to travel a lot, woman at a bar in chicago and dallas airport knew me on a first name basis it got that bad.
Then again i didn't want to go near the food hall bit due to thousands of yanks ransacking every eaterie available.
Doubt i would have got out alive so a pint and a pack of crisps it is for me a lot of the time.

I will always stop for a pint if i see a nice pub and i feel a thirst coming on.

No mate.

That said, I did hear a story a few years ago about some blokes in white coats and a hand trolley going from pub to pub saying to the manager they were there to change the fruit machine, upon which they wheeled it out if the door and were never seen again.

-- Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:25 am --

Is this socially acceptable? I know a load of old timers do it and i dont bat an eyelid, but im 24... Sometimes i just cant be arsed with anybody, i cant be bothered talking and just fancy a pint. I live in town so ive loads of places on my doorstep, so i go for a walk with my ipod and find a place with some decent beers and chill out for a bit. Il be honest, i feel like a right sad bastard when im doing it and i get the feeling that everybody must be looking at me thinking "HAHA look at that lonely twat", is this the case?!
I feel the need to get my phone out every 10 minutes to make it look like im waiting for somebody or my trains delayed or something!
Does anybody else go for a quiet pint on your own? I need reasurring that im not a 80 year old in a 24 year olds body
Socially acceptable??? It's one of life's exquisite pleasures! Torygraph crossword and a pint of Bow - wonderful.

Bit of downtime, time on your own and if you are desperate for company, you can always find it.

-- Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:27 am --
