Dunne and Dusted

MH could have said the textbook replies of 'Dunne is a key member of the team/squad' or 'we value Dunne and what he brings to the team'. The fact he didnt and wormed his way out of the question leaves me feeling Dunne will be leaving.

If he goes who are all you dunney bashers going to scapegoat next?

Idiotic post.

Dunney was fantastic for us for a couple of years but his cons have outweighed his pro's on the whole for too long now. He is dreadful on the ball and far too error prone to be a top centre half and it's probably the right time to move on. With Lescott, Toure, Kompany Ned and Richards for cover we should be fine for centre halves

As for selling him to one of our rivals, well I expect us to finish above Villa with or without Dunne and to be honest I don't think he's that good a player to be worrying about anyway. Selling Martin Petrov to one of our rivals would bother me as he's a class act and would do a quality job for most teams in the prem, but selling Dunney isn't gonna make another team as strong as us it will probably just be proof that we're stronger than them IMO
More than a couple of years, and to describe him as being dreadful on the ball is just ridiculous. We'll have to disagree about petrov as well. Robinho is stronger in the tackle than Petrov

Its clear that Toure and Lescott will be our first choice Centre Back pairing (and a very good one, in my opinion), therefore Dunnie will be a sub at best. He will be competing with Onuoha and Kompany, who are both much younger than him, for a place during any games when Toure and Lescott aren't playing. If he's no longer an automatic starter, he will surely no longer be the regular Captain either, which will hardly be fair on him. This is not where Dunnie needs to be at the point in his career, at 29 years old - as a sub, with the Captaincy removed from him. He needs to be at a Club where he is an integral part of the first team and, like it or not, that situation no longer exists for him at City.

For me, its not a matter of being in any way disrespectful to Dunnie - he's been great for us, and I'll be very sad to see him go - but I think its best for both parties that we part ways and move on, with fond memories intact.

Yet to see either make one yet so cannot judge

It's a good job neither of them are there for tackling really (although it would be nice)

Dunne being dreadful on the ball is not ridiculous - his passing is awful and the amount of times he just hoofs it to the oppositions keeper even when he's got space and time isn't good enough

Be fair to Dunnie. He will be wanting one more decent contract for around 3 years to see him through to the end of his career. He also needs first team football whether ROI are in the World Cup or not. He'd simply fade away as a bench warmer and, to be brutally honest, is he really likely to get in ahead of the 4 or 5 Centre Halves we have already?

Good luck to him, I say. Let's praise him as a great servant of the club rather than pick over the bones of his nine years with God's own football team. Respect is due and we should applaud his efforts rather than focus on his alleged failings. Remember, he's been through it all with us for all that time, and so he will always be one of us.

He is currently ahead of Ned & TBH in the pecking order & Kompany is not proven at CB. Mark H's first priority should be getting rid of that loser TBH. Also, Dunne does not need first team football to play for Ireland.

Whatever happens, the guy is a legend!

CANT SEE THE NEW CENTRE HALFS DOIN A HALF OF WHAT HONEY MONSTER HAS DONE FOR THIS CLUB THERE IS STILL 2/3 GOOD YEARS LEFT IN HIM LESCOTT 24m AND SELL DUNNE FOR 5m A JOKE

You are, of course, welcome to your views. However, even if he was ahead of the three CHs as you suggest, then the clock would be ticking in any event. Maybe you didn't see VK play at CH last season.

If ROI is your national team, then I bow to your superior knowledge, but I find it strange that a seasoned international comig to the end of his prime would not want to play first team football every week, unless you aer suggesting that he needs resting for internaiotnal games.

What we did seem to agree on was that he deserves our respect for his service to the club. At one time, he was our best and most consistent defender by some way and, alongside Distin, they were acknowledged as one of the best pairings in the Premier League. But times change. I think he's off, it seems a logical move and I wish him well.

Saint Richard Dunne in some eyes! To me he has been well paid to do a job and I doubt that there has ever been a queue of clubs knocking at City's door. Don't get me wrong he has been a good player for us but I can't forget the situation when he was demanding a new much improved contract and how he was prepared (allegedly) to lead a players revolt over the SGE affair. Now I'm don't blame him one iota for the contract he is entitled to get as good as contract as possible but the way some of you gone on about him on here you would think he was Franz Beckenbauer playing for nothing. In my view he is an industrial centre half, prone to mistakes, makes desperation tackles, and has very poor distribution. I will not be sorry to see him leave BECAUSE it shows how much we have progressed Dunne is a player for a mid table team and we have moved onwards and upwards to better things. I say good luck Richard thanks for you time here but find yourself another club because you shouldn't be sat on the bench it will not do you any good
