Dunne has spent 9 years at our club, been player of the year 5 times; 4 years in a row.
How can anyone question his loyalty to City, espeicially in an era that footballers move on and on just to get a slice of the transfer fee?
Dunne is leaving because he is being pushed out to bring in a new culture, a new era. He has been shown the door through the actions of the manager.
Dunne could just sit on the bench, booze, get fat and live off his 3 year contract, and pick up a very lucrative testimonial next year. Instead he has choosen to move on, as our Captain for so many years he knows this is best for the club. His actions are what the club managers wants, he therefore is entitled to his Golden Handshake. Remember not one of the players bought in by Hughes would have even considered City, a year ago and more, they are the mercenaries they are getting the biggest and least earned Golden Handshake.
Loyalty should be rewarded and seen to be rewarded not punished, for the good of the club. Hughes might not recognise this as he was somewhat mercenary when a player.
I welcome the new players, the new era, but that should not be at the expenses of shitting on our past, our history and our loyal servants.
All the very best Dunne, I wish you well and hope you get your Golden Handshake, you more than deserve it.
