Dunne and Dusted

Guys, we're all on the same side here. Chill

My take on this is, Dunne has been a fantastic player for us and he's been fairly consistent. He played almost every match and wasn't injury prone. For that the club paid he extremely well. He didn't do us any favours by getting player of the season 4 years on the bounce, it's his job to play and anybody with any sense of pride, self respect & enjoys their work will always do their best so he didn't do anything unusual there!

For 9 years the club have paid him a very handsome wage so again we owe him nothing. He hasn't asked to leave (I assume) and as such we should give him a pay off. It's only fair.

Last word on this from me, those of us that can remember when he first joined us from Everton he was a bit of a twat, missing training or turning up for training pissed. That's not in doubt and if it wasn't for Curly Kevin Keegan, the PFA and City then Dunnie could well have had his football career cut very short.

I suspect the real sticking point will be wages, though in the end (ie by Tuesday) I expect he will take first team football over money, very good luck to him when he does, and I'd like to see an end of season (benefit) charity game between us and Villa to thank him for his services to our club. He was never a brilliant player, but nobody could ever doubt his passion for the blue cause.

I imagine he is in quite a strong position to demand some compo from city.

I seriously doubt this is a sticking point, more likely how much Villa will pay him, because its very likely he would break their wage structure, and I don't blame him. I really can't see why City will be worried about paying him a decent pay off, he never asked for a move, and is under contract, its not like we're short of money is it ? I'll bet Villa are asking us to pay some of his wages, and why would we do that ? I'd give Dunney whatever he's due, but its Villa's call to pay him the going rate, and if they won't then he should stay here.

He'll be gone on Tuesday because the window will ensure it, Villa need him, and (in all honesty) we don't, so expect them to pay him what he's asking, when the pressure mounts, they missed out on one player already, if I was MH I'd start him tomorrow.

He will fit in VIlla's wage structure. Barry was offered 75k pw. I am sure we will be able to pay Dunne 50k pw! Besides, I am sure Villa would have checked that out with his agent before making an offer.

He spoke with Villa yesterday, I am sure met again with City today (pay off) and will probably be paraded tomorrow before the fulham game.

i remember Kanoute bet us at Maine Rd 1 - 0 West Ham, and Dunne was at RB, he got dogs abuse that day (not from me mind!)

a well thought out post, but wrong in each and every respect ;)

villa need him, so they are not in a position to play hard ball, and will make him a perfectly acceptable offer. dunne probably likes villa, so I can't see him risking losing out on the move by making heavy demands from them, unless he has a strong fall back position with another club he liked equally, but who would be able to push through a deal very quickly. it's possible he does, but we've no evidence of that whatsoever. the only candidate would be spurs, and I can't see them offering him more than villa.

on the other hand, city will not want to pay him any more than necessary. he, however, has a strong case. the only deadline for either party is the window. it's a perfect recipe for two or three days of posturing.
