Eric Clapton

It's all right being one of the great guitarists of all time but if all you play is some 150 year olds instrumentals then fuck that. The best guitarists of all time came up with their own stuff that has stood the test of time. Clapton is a bona fide guitar legend imo. It's alright being Petr Piszphlapjyzz a piano prodigy but if your just playing Mozart all your life then frankly 70s Stevie Wonder is worth more imo.

In Cream he was untouchable. But this was largely down to Bruce (and Baker to an extent) he got extremely lucky with those 2 and has nothing of note before them or since. Doesn't deserve his status.
I wouldn't say he was untouchable, Hendrix pissed all over him.
But he was very good. Just since Cream he's been a bit meh.
Cream was fifty years ago.

Irrespective of Clapton's merits or otherwise, he is beaten to a cocked hat by Peter Green, that is before he lost his mind.
BB King did not have much respect for 'white boy blues', but he said: "Peter Green makes me sweat".
That'll do.

Peter was indeed awesome. With his own sound and style.
Love those early Fleetwood Mac albums.

Back to Clapton, I always thought his best work on Mayalls Beano album.

Mayall had Clapton, Green and Taylor. One after another.

Just quoting you mate. It probably wasn't best to start with is he that good a guitarist.
Not sure if this is a wind up, but I'll explain.
I questioned whether he is that great a guitarist.
He was very good in Mayall and Cream but for the last 50 years hasn't done much else. Hasn't progressed.
So how great is he actually?.. he continually recieves plaudits as though he's the greatest. But I don't understand why.
Does he deserve the continual praise ?

Case for the prosecution.

Playing the famous Beatles song.
Clapton is singing it. Mark Mann is playing the lead guitar bits between verses, he's doing it very well, sounds awesome. Killer tone.
Gets to the main lead guitar break and Clapton takes over, his tone is week as piss and it's quite a boring solo... I think Mark mann would've given a much more impressive solo.

Is this some kind of trap? Clapton played on the original and apparently Clapton's performance was ranked 42nd in Guitar World's 2008 list of the "100 Greatest Guitar Solos". Haven't checked if he replicated his original guitar solo here.
