Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

It is what it is. We’ve got a loyal fan base but we lack the passion to make a good atmosphere, consistently. No changes to the design of the stadium solves that. Fans have to find their voices.

People do what they want. The good news is that the atmosphere has improved over the last 18 months at Prem games.
We have consistently had a good atmosphere in the Prem this season.

Our fanbase doesn’t take the Group Stage of the Champions League anymore seriously than the third round of the EFL Cup against Wycombe or FA Cup Third Round tie against Rotherham though.

A lot of sets of fans treat the CL Group Stage like we do the CL semifinal, but we just look at it like the early stages of a cup competition and the serous stuff to really get excited about in this comp is six months away yet.

16th placed Southampton on Saturday in the Prem gets the juices flowing with our fanbase much more than Copenhagen in the CL or even Dortmund while it’s still only the Group Stage.

But you’d be hard pushed to find a better atmosphere in the Premier League than the Etihad this season. We’ve been in top form.

I'm not sure if anyone from the club either takes part in these forums, or reads them, but if we want to win the Champions League this season, we need to get the atmosphere for the OUR players in OUR favour. It is time now for the club to ban away teams from bringing a drum into the stadium. A drum from the opposition completely drowns out any chance of our fans to gain any kind of home support advantage. Pep and the team are doing a cracking job of demolishing teams currently. However, when the big boys come to town, we will need to get right behind the team and up the home support noise levels, and also make it difficult for the away teams to intimidate our fans and players. Please can somebody from the club make the suggestion to the powers that be, to ban the drums.
Absolutely spot on!

We can’t take in umbrellas or bags larger than an A4 piece of paper or even our own food or drink into the stadium (and remember the lad they wouldn’t even let in wearing shorts?!), but we allow a load of Gervaises to take in drums and sticks to bang fuck out of all game and make it hard for us to create an atmosphere ourselves because our vocal areas are directly next to these drums and these away drums are louder than our chant starters so our noise doesn’t travel around the stadium or even our own vocal blocks.

CITY - PLEASE BAN ALL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN ALL PARTS OF THE ETIHAD STADIUM!

Let it explicitly be known when these fans of the visiting teams are buying their tickets. They can’t bring shit like that in.

It can be done as well, St Helens RFC have banned them at their Langtree Park/Totally Wicked Stadium. No visiting sets of fans are allowed their drums in the away end (and their fans have never bothered with drums so don’t have them in the home ends neither).

This would be the biggest thing I’d bring up to the club in any meeting that 1894 Group or City Matters have with them.

Pissing down with rain? Open your coat, take off your hat, unzip your fleece

FUCK OFF

I don't know where you are in the world, and I'm sure you mean well, and you might even be right, but if you got a capo at a city game he'd be given the wanker sign and told to sit the fuck down within 30 seconds. The only atmosphere he'd generate is 10k blues giving him stick all game. Which sounds fun but probably isn't the intended outcome. We just have a different football culture, and we are too late to import it.
Here lies the problem with English football, we are English so we are not allowed to have ultras in the game, you may have the most competitive league in the world but the atmosphere really needs to be looked at, Rangers and Celtic both have ultras and they help create an atmosphere at games. There are capo stands at Celtic Park for the Green Brigade who help generate a lot of noise at Celtic Park and you just need to ask a lot of teams throughout the world where the best atmosphere and most of them will say, Celtic Park. Manchester City has 1894 but as a club needs to bring in new ideas to improve the atmosphere Pep has been quoted about this so many times about this. Please watch this video where a team set up in 2018 has a new stadium and they advise that the safe-standing section copy of the Dortmund Yellow Wall has been the best thing the club has ever done for the fans, so there is no argument saying you are too late to import it. Regarding football culture, you really need to move with the times the European teams and also MLS and Scottish teams have moved their culture by having ultra fans and doing marches before games etc with drums banging and smoke canisters going off.

Again, you can say it's a problem with the English or not, but my Dad has been going to the football since the 1970s. I've been going since the early 1990s. Our matchday routine is different to a club setup four years ago that doesn't have a culture to speak of. We can call it a big problem or not, but ultimately the premier league is the most popular football league in the world. And more importantly, I promise you, with every ounce of my being, a capo would get stick for 90 minutes. You're not going to convince 10k City fans to adopt a completely new style of football spectating.
