Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

It's too quick that's why. If it was slowed down many more would join in.

That in a nutshell is what is wrong with a lot of these chants. Think Spurs, there is only one chant of theres which really springs to mind and its a slowed down version, easy to sing and allows the whole stadium to join in. Just like Blue Moon does for us, which is comsistently the loudest chant most home matches.

I quite like those songs but they aren’t home stadium songs.

Brilliant away day chants, great in the pubs and on trains planes and automobiles. But they’re the sort of chants that will never take off around big home stadiums.

Not once have I ever heard ‘Empty Seats At Home’ spread around the stadium but it’s like it’s become our main club anthem in the singing section. They’ve got a new one this season n’all with ‘We’ve Got The Best Football Team In The World’… the singing section sang it from the opening kick off for three minutes and then again on about the six minute mark for a minute… hardly anyone in the entire rest of the stadium joined in. And the atmosphere in general was poor in the first half.

As soon as the proper City chants got going second half the whole ground (not everybody in the ground but at least a few dozen even in the quietest blocks) were getting involved.

Also a lot of these chants are not inspiring at all. Some one has just posted a video of the South Stand chanting ‘City’ at Pep and you can envisage how at a corner or when attacking how inspiring this could be. Who could possibly be inspired by chanting about Edin Dzeko who left 6 years ago?

Some chants are best left in the pub and on the concourse and stuck on instagram, fun to sing, but once your in the ground the point of singing is to inspire your team.

Chelsea fans were sh*te today against Arsenal in the London derby.
Villa fans were good today against United.
Spurs fans were good and bad today against Liverpool.
There is no one fits all to (creating) a good atmosphere.

The Rome derby between Roma and Lazio today was very good.
Both sets of fans sang throughout the match. Especially the Roma fans. The whole stadium. At the final whistle the Lazio team including the subs went over to the Curva North housing 18,000 Lazio fans and celebrated the 0-1 win against Roma with them.

Spot on Frank. Pointless and does nothing to lift team.

That’s because it’s got a big anthemic ‘Beeernaaardoooooo, SILVA’.

Most people around the stadium only chant that bit and just clap along to the ‘running down the wing…’.
This is part of the problem, fans can't be arsed learning the words to anything with more than 10 words in it....added to that everything we sing always seems to end up being a race to get to the end quicker than the last time it was sung.

3 sides of the stadium sit in silence.

Got nothing to do with accoustics, or songs, or the roof or any other myths that might be put forward.
The loudest songs are the ones I hear from the North Stand (and I sit / sing level
With the penalty spot at the opposite end of the ground). That’s because those chants have travelled around the ground and involve fans singing in virtually every block.

Lots of people in the South Stand slapping themselves on their backs. Certainly 1894 deserve credit for improvements in the atmosphere. But the South Stand is usually out sung by the away fans.

I’m sure South Stand Level 3 getting behind the team in most of the big games but it’s not very noticeable from where I sit. Maybe if they turned up the volume for more games it would be noticeable.

I hope Saturday is a catalyst for change with more fans realising it’s enjoyable to get behind the lads.

Thought the atmosphere was great on Saturday, ground nearly full at the end was a huge bonus. Me and my 2 teenage sons are in the family stand level 2 and sing a lot, but the only other people anywhere near us who also sing are a granddad and his 2 grandsons in the row behind. Feels a bit like it doesn’t contribute but we do it anyway. What does piss me off, apart from the silent majority, is people on here slagging off the south stand for singing “the wrong songs”. Fucks sake, at least they are singing, and we certainly appreciate it from the other end of the ground, and I am sure the players do too. I can’t afford to not sit in the family stand due to the cheaper season tickets but once they are too old for the cheaper tickets they want to move to the south stand (with me bless ‘em, well they say that anyway!). So we say well done South Stand, you’ll sing what you want, we like listening to you.

Every away game I’ve been to this season we have outsung the home fans, except probably Newcastle. Even at anfield, until they scored. I think that is a regular away fans more up for it issue. Our issue isn’t the south stand or Kippax corner, it’s the rest of the ground. Yes the south stand could be louder and could sing more frequently, but they are not the main issue.

There’s no excuse why the rest of the ground couldn’t learn the words to the Edin Dzeko and Bernado Silva songs

I agree. But tbh the majority of the fans just singing City, City would help. That’s the single most important issues. The anfield atmosphere is something of a myth, until they score and then the majority of the ground sing. We seem to have a lot who just never sing

I agree mate. I’ve been to Anfield loads of times and the Gerrard slipped season is the only time I’ve been really impressed with the atmosphere there. (I didn’t go the Champs League game there that I assume was loud).

I think even the first half atmosphere on Saturday was better than comparable games in recent years (eg the 2 nil defeat by Wolves). Yes City, City could be chanted by everyone and I’ve said before there could be a prompt for everyone chanting Come on City (like Helen’s Bell).

Traditionally, a song with a similar tempo of “Tearing Cockney’s Apart” would have been sung around Maine Road and particularly in the North Stand (eg When the Bkues go Marching in).

Anyway, let’s try and build on Saturday. Not every game will be a 10 man 95th minute winner but wasn’t it great seeing the lads doing a lap of honour and receiving raucous support.

The next time you attend a game, watch the South Stand when we get a corner. I'd argue 90% of the time we start off that 'City' chant.

We do it. No matter what people want you to believe we don't only sing about Edin Dzeko (that song isn't even about him either, it's about us winning the Premier League against our second most hated club).
