Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

i think the people against a drum shout out more than the people for a drum, with some it does seem to be an instant no without any thought process. A bit like when on UCL nights i see a DJ in the corner of the stadium giving it some with their decks, straight away its why and what a waste of money.

Palace and wolves are regular users of a drum, not sure if newcastle do from time to time. What you find is the lower down the league you go and non league, you will find a lot more drums.

wish we would just sing more and for longer, not difficult

Just bring a drum and don't tell anyone, no ones going risk getting a life ban for assaulting someone over a drum

I’m against the insidious cheese creep at matches but I’m middle aged. I imagine that virtually all the kids at the game love the DJ and the light display and the torch flashing and the HT “fun” so I’m guessing they’d probably love a drum as well. In 20 yrs time they’ll be the ones driving the atmosphere and a drummer will probably be as integral to their match day experience as foul mouthed anti utd chants are to ours.

Some of the best atmospheres towards the end of the Maine Road days were when the Kippax and North Stand were having a friendly pop at each other.

'Small stand in Maine Rd, you're just a small stand in Maine Rd'.

As for the drummer, not my cup of tea but long as I'm not in the same stand I could probably cope

I’m sorry to hear that.

But nobody is going to stop going because of a drum located in a possible new *singing section* in the NS, if and when it’s expanded.

There are also different kinds of drums that create different drum sounds. Yes there are drums you can bash the hell out of that will reverberate around the ground and annoy people. There are also drums that are much quieter, but can still be heard within the singing section.

Apologies for being a stuck record on this matter, but you don’t have to beat a drum to death to get the best out of it. If it’s used ‘PROPERLY‘, sparingly and in unison with chants, it can be a great asset and it can improve the chants and the atmosphere inside the ground.
Not for me, loathe orchastrated fan chants, especially these German ones, same boring beat for 90 mins. The atmosphere is generated by the appreciation of the players and their efforts, the English way.

i first went to footy games in the late 70s, every decade how fans make noise and create atmosphere changes ( apart from what you cant beat which is hand clapping and singing ). Every decade fans drop off with something, a new idea comes in. So unless we add new ideas / trends to making a noise then nothing replaces what we stop doing. Eventually we are all stood there in silence.

if every singer moves in to the north stand when the extension is done and we work with the club to create even more of a dedicated singing area, it will be loud as ****. We wouldnt need a drum or capo.

im not keen at all on the cheese / DJ etc. But moving forward with some good ideas has to be.

I joined in with the thread about young fans with mobile phone torches, it was young fans having a good time. Dont see the problem with fan involvement, better than an empty seat with fans sloping off

The first chant is a bit basic. But different stands are involved with each other. And the drum is used sparingly during clapping.

Lad at the bottom in the grey top with the small drum.

Didn’t watch the rest of the video.

Have you ever posted a video of City fans singing mate?

I get the impression that a lot of people who go to City these days are not interested in City fans, City songs and City fan culture. They want to be part of something that is not part of North West football culture at all. I always think that City United Everton and Liverpool have got strong enough fan cultures that we don’t need to copy the Ultras shite.

It’d be great if this thread would throw the fucking ‘Ultra’ (even that word is stupid!) shit in the bin and get interested in City fans, City songs and City fan culture. If we actually started getting interested in City and not some fucking Croydon or German band dweebs acting like trolls standing under bridges all the time and filming themselves going ‘oooah oah oh oh ooooooah ooh oah oah’ like it’s something unique and special… it’s fucking boring! The reason clubs turn to it is because they haven’t got a culture within their fanbase to be proud of and want to take forward into the future.

We’ve got 128 years of fan history. People are acting like that must now end and we have to adopt the cheesy Europop bollocks just because Palace and Arsenal are… fucking Cockneys who - like the Europeans - haven’t got an ounce of cool in them.

Don’t copy others. Be original. Stick to our own fan culture, make up our own chants, sing our original songs, have pride in what we’ve done well in the past instead of constantly ignoring it and pretending it’s never happened and never highlighting it. Be brave enough that we can still have great original proper football fan culture in this country enough not to get a drum involved just because stripey Nigel and his daft dozen mates who all wear black t-shirts and all live at home with their Mams in South London have a few songs that some people seem to think are impressive when there are more fans singing in the away end than their whole home parts of their stadium.

We are Manchester City Football Club. 128 years old. Not some new club with a brand new set of fans. We have great atmospheres at times and great chants about our club that don’t need anything else doing to them other than sing them more and maybe make some others up that use the word ‘City’.

Someone saying to me, ‘we should adopt the Ultras style’ is the equivalent of saying we should adopt this and put it into our fan culture:

It doesn’t suit people from the North West. Between just the two cities of Manchester and Liverpool we’ve produced more good bands and modern music culture than every city in mainland Europe put together. That’s why they’ve got no fucking style and all do the same shite in football stadiums. They’ve got no originality or uniqueness… that’s why Cockneys are copying them because those Southern softies are the same!

You also wouldn’t catch Leeds or Newcastle fans pining for this shit. Two sets of fans with great atmospheres who sing all their proper old schools chants and haven’t felt the need to divert from that and try and be something they’re not.

There's a 'temporary issue' on City's website which means you have to call to transfer your ticket to a friend for the Chelsea match.

It's quite frustrating. I'm certain it will increase the number of empty seats around the ground as fans can't be bothered with the hassle involved in calling support services.

One thing that struck me with the video is the make up of the fans. Pretty much all male and probably between 18 - 40, none of whom seemed to care what was going on in front of them on the pitch and all seemed to be happy in taking part of carefully orchestrated and choreographed singing.

Great post, we can have our own culture similar to what we had in 90 s. Our own songs and our own unique style. Unfortunately I think most clubs have clowns of the so called big match atmospheres.
