Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Mrs asa had my seat and I was in Colin Bell gods. I could only hear Brighton fans for most of the game.
It was poor. Shame as the first few games were good. United very good.

What can be done ?
it was killed by the south stand with their incessant clapalongs right from minute one. The first song after kickoff was “empty seats” and the second was “Edin Dzeko” and the third was “singing the blues”.

Couldn't hear that. Only Brighton.

I actually thought ‘ffs’ when the Dzeko song started straight away.

The lack of singing proper classic City songs like ‘We love you City we do’ (remember that one?) that everyone can join in with doesn’t help.

Worst atmosphere for a LONG time in the league, today.

I don’t recall the singing section singing one song from the 35 minute mark to 70 minutes into the game. The only thing there was for well over half an hour in the entire stadium was SSL3 doing ‘Stand Up for the Champions’ on about 50 minutes.

Didn’t hear one single chant of songs like ‘We Love You City’ or ‘na na na naa na na na naa City’ at all, all day… heard ‘Blue Moon’ once, barely heard ‘City City, the best team in the land and all the world’… you know, City songs about City, the club we support.

Just a couple of renditions each half of random clap along songs that barely anyone around the rest of the stadium have any interest in whatsoever, or even know the words to, and silence for most of the rest of the time.

What’s happened to our song list? It’s fucking woeful these days!

Bobbins!

Can’t help but feel these songs are sung because it makes them feel more ‘hardcore’. They kill the atmosphere because the rest of the ground can’t join in.

Brighton only seemed to have one song “Albion” to the tune of “Murderers” but crucially everyone seemed to join in, probably cos they knew the words. Take note City singers.

At some point about a decade ago our singing section decided that “Sergio Sergio” wasn’t good enough and so they’d sing an overlong song about him that most people still don’t know the words to. This was the turning point …. out went short pithy songs to be replaced with verbose inaccessible songs ….. the ridiculously needless 2nd Zaba song, the absurdly long 60,000 empty seats dirge, etc etc and here we are ten years later and most of the ground can’t join in cos they don’t know the words to the majority of songs that the singing section start.
