Very true, can only go off what they say! A little snippet though the bridge gets handed over to MCC in Monday

Another little step towards a very big future.
I think it should be handed over by a celebrity - maybe Roger Bannister?

Or Bobby Charlton perhaps?

I better leave early then, don't want to be in all that crowd at end of the game
You will have to leave earlier than early, to accommodate the extra early leavers who have an extra 3 rows to walk up who will probably leave early to beat the crowd.

The pictures/designs and renders shown on here are fantastic. For me the Etihad isn't currently all the striking from the outside apart from when it is lit up at night games. This will change all that.

Etihad Stadium hits a winner as it's named one of England's top landmarks

The Etihad Stadium has been named as one of the country’s greatest landmarks.

Manchester City’s ground has been included on a list of the most recognisable structures in England - and people who built it are set to be honoured at a special ceremony.

The list was selected by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and also features The Gherkin in London, the Library of Birmingham, the Leeds First Direct Arena and Sage Gateshead.

The stadium in East Manchester was created for the Commonwealth Games in 2002, but the Blues soon converted it from an athletics arena to a football stadium and it’s now home for City fans.

Kevin Parker, 53, general secretary of Manchester City Supporters’ Club, hailed its inclusion.

He said: “I may be biased but of course the stadium is one of the best buildings in the country.

"It was a great thing for Manchester when the stadium was built and City did a fantastic job converting it.

"A lot of stadiums are a bit cold, but the Etihad is different.

“When you’re driving towards it, it’s really impressive and it’s designed to create an atmosphere.

The stadium was built by Laing Construction at a cost of £112 million - and is set to be expanded from 48,000 to 60,000 seats.

Pete Bradshaw, head of infrastructure development and corporate responsibility for City, said: “We’re honoured to be named as one of the country’s most iconic structures.

"We’ve always wanted to ensure it was a structure that residents from east Manchester and the north west could be proud of.

"This accolade is a recognition of the people who built it and those who embraced it as their own. We look forward to a new a chapter following the expansion.”

A CITB spokesman praised the stadium’s design.

He said: “Its elegant roller-coaster roof design and cable net system can be seen from miles around and shows off the best of British building.

"Its design enables access for all, it’s an inclusive building for everyone.”

CITB wants to find people who helped build the stadium, with the chance of going to the Pride of Construction Awards in London on September 10.

Nominations can be made at citb.co.uk by August 11.

is it true that chinese businesses class the stadium as being lucky due to the 8 spirals and have moved closer to it?

It is incredible how quick things move in East Manchester now. I don't foresee myself coming back home for another few years yet, but when I do, will I even recognise the area I once called home? Debatable.

With regards to the Collar site and inevitable Hotel featuring somewhere, I heard a few snippets before I left that IHG have earmarked the site for their long awaited Manchester Intercontinental Hotel.

Any truth in that?

I think they have a couple of hotels either built or bing built in AD so they will have connections to Khaldoon and Sheikh Mansour if they have.

Looking at the Video it goes back quite some bit, looks to be going back over half the existing space available there at the moment so when you consider how long them queues can get on night games, congestion / movement around the ground could be a small problem

It goes slightly past the two central supports so lots of room.

Looking at the picture above, if we assume the extension of the North Stand will be similar to the South Stand, will that not be building directly on to the area currently occupied by the stage at City Square? Another poster mentioned this earlier, I was wondering if anyone knew of what the plans were for City Sq if we do expand the North Stand.

I've been led to believe that there'll be a new superstore built when this happens so i presume city square will also be re-sited?

The logical thing to do would be to incorporate the store into the new north stand and then move the City Square Stage to where the present store is i.e. In the centre of the square.
