Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

it is most definitely gonna be the best stadium in the premier league and a stadium fit for top champions league nights!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Within the next ten years it will host a Champions league Final. Hopefully with us in the final.

There's two existing roof supports that are still there when the build is finished. They are shown protruding from the new glass facia. What are they doing if the roof has been raised?

If I have it right, they are still needed to hold the 'cable net' (ie ring of cable) for the inner edge of the existing roof. Take them away and nothing is supporting the existing roof at that end of the ground. The new roof won't be tied into the old as such and doesn't support it.

Holding up the present roof ring that holds up the front edge of the other three stands. The ring will remain in place until all the other stands have been modified and have a different roof support structure. On some of the images you can see the redundant but still supported front ring run across the new South stand a few meters below the edge of the new roof.

All 4 stands? That's unlikely and if it happens is going to take decades

I've just checked on Wiki and the Swamp was expanded over 11 years (1995-2006) from about 45,000 up to about 75,000.
I would envisage a similar timescale for The Etihad assuming our current levels of success are maintained. So maybe
we are looking at roundabout 2025?

cant see it being 2025 until our maximum capacity has been reached almost 50% of the work will be completed by this time in 12 months, just leaving the corner sections and north stand which will take 12 months to complete if the ticket sales are a success as they forecast my bet is they will crack on with the north stand 16/17 or 17/18 season, project fully complete by august 2018, this is not taking into account any development to the east and Colin bell stands

I think you just said a lot without saying anything. Surely you don't mean it will take 11 years to sell out the stadium?...

Marvin, initial plans for the sides are already in the design documentation. Please try not to post false information.

i was meaning redevelopment of all 4 stands. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
The East & CB developments will be more problematic. We will probably temporarily lose the full third tier in each stand while work is
underway. I'm guessing that we will want to be operating at full capacity for 3-4 years before the club commits to such a large job.
The other factor is transport. I'm guessing that with the trams now running, going from 47,000 - 62,000 wasn't such a big deal in terms
of planning permission but going over 70,000 would involve upgrading the rail links & possibly even the road network.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Wilf Wild, those 9 rows in the corners you spoke of last night.

Are these the ones on the concept designs? If you look closely a small block of seats (about 9 rows) is added to the ends of the East and CB tiers.

You can see the small block on the CB tier here.

The added blocks to the existing third tiers are clearer here

Get such a buzz watching stuff like this. I really really do. How fucking lucky are we!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

It was actually worsleyweb I think who mentioned the 9 rows of seats. I'm not itk at all about the stadium redevelopment.
I'm just speculating. The extension that you mention though is I think part of the proposal to go to 62,000+. I'm guessing
but just guessing that these extra rows could be stitched onto the third tier next Summer when the new roof is complete?

Franny Lee had plans for a wrap around Kippax Stand at Maine Rd - it never happened

We don't even know when the North Stand work will start, let alone the West and East stands

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Franny Lee was a key player in us agreeing the move to The Etihad with MCC. He rightly ditched his plans to redevelop Maine Road
when "The Commonwealth Stadium" became an option. Whether the redevelopment of Maine Road would have actually happened
or not no one knows. It would have all come down to finance and the trade off between stadium redevelopment and spending on
the squad. They were very, very different days and Franny would be the first to admit that financially he was no Sheik Mansour!
With what we have seen so far I think that we can take it as read that the North Stand will be extended very soon after the South Stand
is completed. Extension to the two side stands will also happen but not immediately due to demand/transport infrastructure.
Finance and ambition are not in question.

Credit where it's due though.

I mean what has Sheikh Mansour ever done for City?

It's not an issue of whether Sheikh Mansour has the wealth or inclination to finance the final stages of the expansion, but where we are as a football club in 3-4 years, and whether we are filling the expanded ground at that time. The plans are exciting, but the final stages of expansion sound to me like they are very much an if at the moment.

Twitter's view of the Etihad(today):

Pitch and City Sq. Nothing new, but thought I'd post it as someone said the pitch was lowered on Weds? Really?? Think his source must have meant the far side where diggers are.
