Hmm, the applicant is the Town Planning Manager for Asda. So no particular link to us.

So staying put then!

Whilst the ASDA Eastlands superstore continues to trade strongly ASDA are considering ways of making the store’s operation more efficient and viable so it’s future longevity is secured.
1.2 To do this they are considering utilising part of their existing superstore to create a new unit for use by other operators that complement the ASDA superstore.
1.3 ASDA are in discussion with potential occupiers, so whilst the exact occupation of the new unit is not yet known, permission for a flexible use unit is being sought for A1 and / or D2
use. The unit could either be used in its entirety for A1 or D2 use by a single operator, or by separate operators on ground and first floor. Alternatively, it could be used by a combination
of A1 and D2 uses, by separate operators on ground and first floor.
1.4 It is likely that:
 The A1 operator(s) will be non-food retail; and,
 The D2 operator(s) will be a gymnasium or other indoors sports, or both1"
.

The current store is 110,000 sq. ft. so the first floor and part of ground floor will not be that large for their alterations, a very interesting development, looks like they are definitely staying for the time being then

Told you last year that this was the 100% the case. City haven't even discussed the site with Asda never mind offering any cash for the store

ASDA get a change of use to include sporting use and casino etc just prior to selling the site on at an inflated value then?

The obvious interesting bits are:

1.3 ASDA are in discussion with potential occupiers, so whilst the exact occupation of the new unit is not yet known, permission for a flexible use unit is being sought for A1 and / or D2

Its not entirely clear at the moment what ASDA's plan might be - interesting none the less

Club shop while the North stand is being expanded?

From Britain From Above - 1939 looking North to South - the Gas Holder bottom left is the one at the end of the car parks

Stores of the ASDA Velodrome type are a drain on supermarket resources. The fire is smaller stores near to the population. I suspect the stuff above is all an attempt to put the selling price up.

Trying to get my bearings on this. Am I right in thinking the gasometer on the left hand side is where the B of the Bang was?

No. The gasometer's still there. The B of the bang would have been about 3/4 of the way up the photo on the left

The road that forks just above the gas cylinder on the left. The fork is no longer there but which path does the road now take up to Alan Turing way?Bears on the left road I think? Which would make the factory further up pretty much on the empty land next to the etihad. I think.

Where the road forks, the left fork follows what is now Alan Turing Way (was Mill Street). The right fork was Forge Lane which runs past the East stand of the stadium and joins up with Grey Mare Lane at Ashton New Road.
