Thanks for the pictures Higor. The crowd is impressive but I don't like the design. It's obviously built for another purpose. The seats are too far from the pitch. Look at position of row 1 on the halfway line. 20m from the pitch. At city you are 5m away. And then incline of the stands is too shallow.

Agree it looks absolutely miles away from the pitch.

Maybe all the West Ham stuff could go in the General Football forum?

It's not the end of the world debating another new stadium in this thread and is appropriate at this time. The thread will move on as it becomes old news. I think it is very relevant to contrast the relative success of converting two stadiums used for athletics into football stadiums. Looks like ours was thought thru better.

Sat in the SS behind the goal you almost feel on the pitch. Looking at that you'd be closer in level 3 than those near the front of their new stadium. Overall it looks really impressive, but i dont like how far away it seems from the pitch. Reminds me a little bit of Hamden Park.

Or the old Wembley. I am right on the touchline, row 1. If it was as far off as West Ham, I wouldn't like it.

Totally agree mate, both converted to football from athletics and in my opion I agree that City have a better football stadium, ours was designed to be a football stadium that during it' construction would be used for athletics whilst In West Hams new home football was an after thought when the stake holders realised that they would be left with an embarrassing legacy from the olympics if they couldn't find a tennant after the games.

Yes absolutely. Im in row c right behind the goal and love how close to the players i feel. You just wont get that with their new stadium which is a real shame for them considering what upton park was like.

I am sure it was a buzz walking up to the new stadium with 50,000 plus others, but just off the pics it doesn't look comparable to our ground. Fans moan about the atmosphere in grounds, me too, but the view at the Etihad is excellent. I think the Hammers will make it a good ground to go to for a season or two, but when they get used to it the atmosphere will die.

Any venue that has 60,000 crowd has to have something though. There'll be some big match noise. It just would be better if purpose-built. Obvious really. There was a question as to whether the remedial work West Ham were doing would make it more fan friendly, but it still looks like a cavern.

Its taken us a long time to get the atmosphere going and thats with the stands so close to the pitch. I thought last season was a step up for us in atmosphere, especially when you think how poor we were at times last season at home and im really looking forward to this season as it could be a fantastic season to be there and the stands will hopefully be bouncing. West Ham will do their best to make it home and give it a good atmosphere, but that roof looks even worse than ours for keeping noise in, fans so far from the pitch etc, once the honeymoon period wares off it will be difficult for them. Hope they make a success of it though.

Last season started off well. Chelsea was a great atmosphere, but then when the performances dipped it was like going through the motions. I am up for this season. Sure everyone is. Bit wary that expectations might get a bit carried away

I think next saturday should be pretty special in the stadium, hopefully better than Chelsea last year. Not sure what 1894 group have planned, but i can't wait to get going now.

i really like the design of the east stand ? at the olympic stadium. one huge single tier, which is what we should have in the north stand when it gets developed.
