Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Bit of a shame about an extension but can see the logic in their thinking.

I was going to mention the roof myself, it's coming to the end of it's useful life isn't it?

I'm not sure in terms of the roof's shelf life, but being told the new one could help to make the Etihad more iconic, perhaps like Bayern's stadium.

@worsleyweb has mentioned issues with the old roof before.

Here’s an example of how stadium exteriors and roofs can be radically updated:

I have to say, internally that stadium looks incredible. Externally I think it's horrific - very ugly design, not much iconic about it (think of big spirals outside San Siro, Spikes at the Etihad, Roofing at Benfica's ground, the exterior of Allianz etc). I guess that's subjective though.

I'm sure it's going to a nightmare for the pitch as well. The roof won't let enough light in. They're going to have to use a shit load of energy with those lights that help the grass grow.

When the South Stand was built we were selling out every league game with a surplus demand for 6k+ extra tickets.

When we sell out the expanded stadium there isn’t a demand for thousands more tickets after the current capacity is met apart from the really big games.

We also lost around 2k seats in the summer and haven’t sold out a couple of league games even at a reduced capacity.

We’re actually losing fans coming to games rather than gaining them at the moment due to Covid, pricing, ticket policies and fans jacking it in for other reasons as well.
I don't really agree with this. I think there is a big demand, but we're too focussed on squeezing as many 'hospitality' seats into the ground as possible. If there were more affordable seats we'd easily see 60k+ at league games week in week out.

Now that sounds more than interesting if they come with something standout.
Only if they get it right though. Our stadium is very iconic and unique looking. Especially compared to most of the newbuild stadiums that are close to a carbon copy of one another (one-tier bowl like Leicester, Southampton, Derby, Middlesborough etc).

It'll be the outside and roof though, the Allianz Arena is something else to behold. Imagine something similar alongside the Co-Op Live building, outstanding.

And when you do won’t extra tickets you have to go through This shambolic system they now have in place. I needed two extra tickets for the Wycombe game but couldn’t get in there because I didn’t know to the day before the game where I was even been sat after being relocated

I think Metro is pretty good at off-peak times. I don't think you can blame them for transport shambles at the Etihad because the infrastructure is just not in place. I think the club and the council need to get together to solve the issues. They have worked closely together on building homes so there is no reason why this should not happen.
I have always though shuttle buses from Ashbury station to the ground would be a decent solution though that would require a revamp of the station because of safety concerns. You could move a lot of people from Piccadilly Station using bigger trains than the trams. Perhaps ADUG could pay for it and the station could be called Manchester City FC or whoever our sponsor was at the time. When the arena opens this may be viable. There are also lots of new homes being built down there.
We will not see major investment in transportation for around 30 matches a year. The cost of rail transport initiatives are eye-wateringly high. It will not stack up for use one day out of every 11 for a maximum of three hours each day. It would be cheaper to run free shuttle taxis to convey people from and to Piccadilly Station.

Of course if the other activities on the Campus can expand the use of public transport dramatically, then this calculation may change.
