European Super League | ECJ rule that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking Super League (p 29)

with all this faux outrage at a proposed ESL it's worth remembering the greed and power grab by the so called Big 5 who led the break away from the Football League after 100 years. They wanted more for them and less for everyone else, the EFL and domestic cups became Cinderella comps with all the focus and money on the EPL. The EPL now want rid of anyone who can challenge the status quo and have damaged our club immeasurably. Well f em, i don't care one way or another about the ESL but anything that reins in the red shirt cartel is fine by me.

The court case is irrelevant, the German clubs are out, PSG are out, and the English clubs are out because they (a) have no incentive to join a league whose entire raison d’etre is to earn enough money to compete with the PL and (b) the gov has already said it will legislatively block clubs from competing, and (c) all the PL clubs signed up to 30 point deductions if they joined - a rule they’d not pass if they thought they would be breaking it any time soon.

Unless your idea of a super league is watching Real vs Inter then you’re going to be disappointed.

the clubs listened to the fans because at the time it was financially prudent to do so and the optics looked good with the whole football is for the fans stuff yada yada, as soon as the pot of money is big enough, the fans wont mean a damn thing, its harsh but thats the reality.
 
Very interesting outcome this . Could work both ways ……
1, The PL and UEFA clean up their acts
2, Its the beginning of the end of football as we know it .

The ESL would be run by and for the European royalty clubs. Utd, bayern, RM etc. You would want City to be part of that cartel? I didn't understand.

The Government would face a restriction of trade case under this scenario. Breakaways in many sports have happened and no one has successfully stopped them. Football is prime for a breakaway partly because a few big clubs have gotten too big for their boots and the regulatory body is incompetent and corrupt!

It always has but nobody would challenge it. The whole point of it was supposed to be to protect clubs from going bust but we all know that was a smokescreen. It was brought in to protect the cartel. We made it just before they pulled up the drawbridge but by fuck they've been on our case ever since!

Great post. The current status quo is untenable. The way we have been treated by UEFA and the PL shows how corrupt it has been. You can’t have a situation where a commercial rival (which is what the PL and EUFA are) are also a regulator.
The clubs own the product so the clubs must manage their own broadcast rights. There is no reason why any new arrangement should not boost the clubs lower than the pyramid. They could get a bigger share of a much larger pot. Media operators, like SKY, will attack any new proposals because they will be put out of business.

City absolutely do want to be part of it, but not as a second-class citizen. Soriano has been planning for City to be part of a Super League for quite some time.
 
A non-starter in the current market.

Europe want to close the gap on the Premier League but probably need the Premier League clubs to do so. I don't think Germany or England will join and that's enough to kill it.

Even if its just to replace the Champions League, it seems a bit pointless. Plus Barcelona v City will get boring when it's being played 6 times a season.

Eventually the Super League will become flawed as well, as with any league there will become a dominant 3 or 4 teams and the rest will just make up the numbers.
 
Yup an awful lot of utd and lfc fans are fed up with the perceived injustice of City winning all the time and they want out.
I think the fans will decide ultimately. Lfc/utd American owners will be listening to their fan opinions since that's what stopped it last time.

All eyes on the government and see if they can prevent our (red) clubs leaving, but id expect a Brexit style campaign of misinformation over the next few years.

I am so glad I got to watch MY club achieve what we have before football eats itself.
 
the hilarity about this is that there is no true outrage amongst the football clubs about what is happening particularly the red shirts, they are angry that someone is doing what they do better than them thats all. this is exactly the same as the pga thing, they are angry that someone might take away their toys and their ability to fleece people and make money and that is all, there is zero altruism in their outrage.

And why the fuck wouldn't we be when we are constantly under attack from the PL and UEFA to the point where they are challenging our very existence.
