Everton (H) | Post Match Thread

Few thoughts on yesterday :

- The atmosphere at the stadium was truly awful. Literally silence for the whole game. Potentially the worst I’ve seen it since the Pearce era that. If the fans don’t turn up, don’t expect the players to either.

- Pep stubbornness when it comes to making substitutions is infuriating. Bringing players on to change the game at 86 mins is insulting. It was clear things weren’t working and changes were needed and this was also the case against Brentford.

- Probably unpopular but Rico Lewis isn’t as great as we’d like to believe. He’s a tidy player who’ll have a good career but what does he actually excel at ?

- Grealish playing left wing has to stop. Again this is entirely on Pep.

In summary, it was a terrible game, terrible atmosphere and Pep has to take full responsibility for more dropped points due to his refusal to make subs.

regarding the atmosphere the players have to inspire the crowd by showing intensity on the field. not by making lethargic sideways passes that put them to sleep.

The players didn’t turn up, hense the silence.

Watching the ball played sideways and backwards in midfield never gets anybody’s juices flowing. Couple that with players feigning injury and the worst set of officials seen for ages, and you get that borefest.

Correct. Though i have to say .. teams like
Everton also contribute to killing an atmosphere.
Look at the recent liverpool game, where it was end to end. Gets you gee’d up. Gets you on your feet.
Then look at everton, parking the bus, feigning injuries, wasting time. Its kills the game and the atmosphere.

I will add though, in such games , we always have some opportunities to launch a quick attack but still seemingly pick the sideways option allowing them to go hand in hand

So yeah… people can blame the fans all they want, but generally its the teams that dictate the atmosphere

Agreed.
Bit harsh on Lewis.
He has potential but it's early days.

It was a game to get our most dynamic and creative players on the pitch and to play either Mharez or Grealish but not both.

Rico and NatAk have done well but neither are creative, should've played Walker,Cancello and Foden then brought on Spider on 65 minutes....Peps subs in 87 minutes is ridiculas.

Poor day all round and its Arses to lose !!

Remember when no one could get near Spain & their possession football and then suddenly the game moved on, opposing sides worked them out but they still kept stubbornly trying to play the way that had brought them success but it didnt really work ?
This feels a little like that
