Everton - Post match thread.

It's almost funny, isn't it? We bought pace all over the pitch, some madrid counter attacking sides would be jealous and yet we are passing, passing, passing..
We can just pay direct passes at pace against team who sit deep. There has to be a situation that allows pace to be used. The only criticism you could level would be that we could press less and let teams come on to us, but that would be a tactic that would have a very short shelf life.

Our counter attacking and pace will be on display in games where the opposition is ambitious.

The peigion breast in the tunnel club was a delight. Football a bit poor. Not impressed.

The back 3 individually tonight were top class, but as a unit, nothing to do but be tight & had no idea where Everton pkayers were as soon as more than one got forward.

Drill the fucking defence properly & we win the title.

Don't bother & we will lose to teams such as the rags

We were awesome tonight & have dropped two points v a team who could not get near us.
Everton fan from NI just been on 5Live and said they'd been mugged. Said they totally outplayed us. Everton for top 4.

Sterling was fantastic in pre-season so why the fuck is Pep leaving him on the bench ?

Ultimately to shoehorn in Aguero and Jesus. I think things will change and I wouldn't be surprised to see Sane-Jesus-Sterling again when Mendy is available.

Do what? Draw 1-1 at home against a very average team. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased with the point given we had 10 for half the game but to say we were 'awesome' is ludicrous.

10 men against 12 and we looked a class above even at that.

The result wasn't what we wanted, but there's much to be positive about there.

Bore off. How do you counter attack against a team that sits back? Everton had exactly one shot on goal all game and were content to park the bus and hack us down any time we got round it.

very happy with a point in the end. we showed a lot of fight in the second half. sterling made a big difference when on. atmosphere was really good swell.

Let's all play for a draw when you're 0-1 up against ten men

Hahaha

Smart ambition! They could have buried us tonight if they'd gone for us right after half time yet just about hung on

As for us - poor poor poor finishing from Kun (actually didn't even get a shot away), Jesus, Silva and Sterling. Sums our team up that, we're nowhere near ruthless enough. We played with no intensity first half neither, I thought we were quite poor despite creating chances.

Second half we were fucking brilliant! But we have to show that level of intensity with eleven men; do that and no team will live with us. We can't afford to go through the motions saving ourselves for a title run-in because it might never happen if we stroll through the season again.

Well I've been going for nearly 50.years & only seen us do.it in the lower leagues.
So you can be as miserable as you want but I thought it was fucking fantastic.

Play like that & defend properly we win the lot.

And to that **** of an Everton (with a surprising Man accent) fan who was on Talk Sport who reckons Everton were robbed go and boil your head you utter twat.

This is not to slate the lad as he is young and I think will become one of the best LW/CF in the world... but Sane lost the match for us tonight. He just was not trying (really inexcusable at this level) in an awkward position. I do think Pep takes some of the blame for playing him at LWB but Leroy has to take a lot of it for obviously not applying himself (he looked like he really just did not fancy it).

Once he came off, Sterling came on, and Dinho dropped to LWB, we improved substantially. Also think it was very harsh to take Jesus off as his overall contribution was much better than Agüero (who had one of his worst matches in recent memory). I think Kun is just building fitness but it was disappointing to see such labored movement and clumsy dribbling. And, my god, he needs to drop Puma as sponsors, regardless of the money lost. If he keeps slipping every third shot attempt he'll lose more on acclaim and wages than they can pay him to play in those tap shoes.

But that's because Fernandinho is a terrible holding midfielder. He doesn't hold for a start. He gambles. If he gets caught ahead of the ball, the back line get got at 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 which is difficult to defend. It happens against every half decent side we play against and has done for the last two seasons despite half the forum beaming about how good and 'up for it' he is.

It's because every player was watching the ball. Same move happened earlier.

Same old same old, missed chances and that's what cost us. Blame the ref for a shocker, but in reality if aguero pulls the trigger or Dave hits the target then that red doesn't happen. Need a massive kick up the arse.

PEP: "We tried to win the game even when it was 10 against 11. Nobody can say we didn't try."

PEP: "It's similar to a lot of games last season, it's sad because we wanted to start well at home."

PEP: "We are here for the results, but we didn't win... It’s just the second game and we’ll improve

PEP: "We tried to find ways of attacking them and we did. We had opportunities and we never gave up."
