Everton - Post match thread.

I thought Jesus was more of a problem tbh.

I didn't, I thought he was unlucky to be hauled.

He showed great feet to set up quite a few attacks, but clearly not on wavelength with Kun.

Laughable when Jesus attempted to play him in and Sergio had turned his back.

De Bruyne was much brighter once they switched him deeper, a bit like the second half of the away tie at Monaco.

He's a sunshine player, best in the world when the machine and all its parts are in unison, but his passing his awful when it's not his day.

I think you are bang on the money.

Pep is biding his time and then Aguero will represent nothing more than another option for him.

Still, the manager shouldn't try to make examples of any player to get a possible point across to the board, who have backed him to the hilt.

If Sanchez is signed, it could even be him up top and the young lads all rotating in the wide areas, which is where they are best suited.

I'm glad i'm not the only one to see it this way, I don't like the games though, best case he gets the players he wants, worst case we destroy Sane's confidence and drop too many points (very early days I know) which would be a traversty

I think considering the situation we should be happy with the point. A loss would have been damaging but fighting back with 10 men builds character & confidence. Sterling showed he's up for the fight for a place which will stand us in good stead going forward. We wont win every game & neither will our rivals.

I thought he was very poor in comparison to Sterling.

For me, none of our players played particularly badly, or well for that matter. They pretty much all varied from "quite poor" to "quite good" and most were just "meh". We got a few moments of brilliance from KDB, and Jesus and even Silva I who didn't have his best game, had good moments. It was that the collective just didn't work. Too many players not on the same wavelength, too many duff decisions when opportunities arose. Basically a lack of real quality when it mattered, from more or less everyone. Sterling stood out as being the player that was making a difference and delighted he got his goal.

I thought he was ineffective in the main. Dropping deep constantly and not really getting much joy once he was on the ball.
He'll be a great player for us, no doubts about it but I think the manager called it spit on with the change.

Again, bang on the money.

Same goes for Sterling. It's a World Cup year and he looks like he wants it more than ever. Pep can't afford to cause unnecessary "collateral damage" to get where he needs to go.

He is going to be a truly great player, but he is not playing the current piosition very well at the moment imo.

It was noticeable that we improved in both games when he went off, indeed how much better Silva & Aguero link up without him there.

I think he needs to start a game at striker, with no other responsibilities, to get him back on track. He, Sane & Sterling were fantastic together last season.

I thought Jesus was more of a problem tbh.

Agree with you again mate. More of a problem may be a bit harsh. From what I've seen I certainly think Sergio has been creating more chances for other players than Gabriel so far this season. Personally, I would prefer both in the team with Jesus on one of the flanks and Sergio up top. We finished last season so well with that. Still, it's the start of the season and far too early to say something does or doesn't work.

Sterling was on another level to everyone else though.

It was the same job though. Everyone looked better in their various roles, when Sterling took Jesus' job. Suddenly, everyone knew what to do & started linking up, tbh in a way which is better than anyone else could even dream of doing, in this league.

I think we need to get Jesus playing in that, as sub for Aguero or starting & being subbed off for Aguero, but it doesn't mean he can't play his current position. He just isn't quite there yet.

Yeah, he could play wide, or sub for Serio, whatever. Just get him into form, then he can do anything, he's fucking brilliant.

I honestly think he intends to play one up top but he is playing games like he did last year to force us to sign another forward and centre half, soon as they are signed he will go back to one up top and a back four in my opinion.

Would not like to think our manager would be happy to risk losing vital points just to get signings.

1 down and their usual gamesmanship comes into it. Never a sending off but why... why...do we only start playing with urgency, pace and dare I say it, passion, when we are losing or a player down?

I can't understand that with our 'quality' we aren't going for the jugular where pace and passion are given a free rein for fifteen minutes. it's as though a 5-7mph speed limit has been imposed!

You have to be the most biased supporter I have seen. Most city fans could admit that shneiderlin second challenge was not a yellow. He got all ball; the contact with the follow leg was incidental. Read the rule book.
dangerous play...booking for endangering the opponent...walker didnt touch baines at all and got booked (rightly so imho...tho his second booking was a terrible decisiob even according to the pundits) .

if walker gets booked tjen sneiderlin has to...his first yellow was also blatant

Was really annoyed last night but think we'd have probably got smashed in that game last season. Pep's obviously had them in for extra training over pre-season using a 10 v 12 set up so we can put up with abysmal referees again. That looks like it is working too and despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men, we bossed it completely from start to finish. Everton seemed to be more defensive when we had a man less (three men less if you put Bobby Badley and Michael Oliver back in their Toffee's kits). So it was a bit of a downer not to grab the three points we deserved and put that down to wasteful finishing, which we still need to improve on.

I can see us being robbed of points a lot again this season. I can also see us having to play against parked buses even when playing teams that are supposed to be challenging for European spots and with an extra man on the field (utter shithouses in other words) but I cannot wait to smash those rag fuckers back to under their rocks.

Everton fans I know are gutted they did not hold on for a win result feels like a loss to them! They admit we pummelled them even with 10 men but still think they should of won! Shows what character our plays showed playing over a half the game with 10 men and battling hard for a well earned draw.
