Everton - Post match thread.

I keep reading this and keep feeling the need to reply.

Everton sat so deep, we had acres of time and space on the ball - even with our 10 men. So we passed it around amongst us quite happily until we got near their box, and then we passed it sideways some more or made the wrong decision and lost the ball, over and over again. Only Silva II and Sterling showed any sort of quality in the areas of the pitch that actually mattered.

How is this "excellent"? Outplaying them with 10 men doesn't in itself mean we were excellent since they weren't even trying to come out. We could have had 7 men and still had more possession than them.

High marks for us for effort, but in terms of actual quality, I thought it was poor from us from beginning to end.
Sadly I think you are right. However, early doors and we have time to sort things out might need to dig deep in the pockets over the next week or so though.

I normally agree with your comments but I disagree with your assessment of the 2nd half. I agree Everton were extraordinarily defensive for a team with a man advantage and they did concede ground up until the pen area, but when we got there I felt our quality was good. It's not easy to create chances against a very determined opponent hell bent on defence. All our players contributed a lot in the 2nd half and I was proud of them. A pity we could not get a late winner.

We need to play for 90 mins though. That was a fault from last season

Playing in a City shirt....

I would like to differ with opinions that Kun is past it, make him do a bit less work and let him just SCORE goals. One of the best strikers cannot become shit within a season, pep took over, kun went downhill, co-incidence, I dont think so.

I'm perhaps sounding too negative, but in honesty some of that might be me reacting to others who in my view have been unrealistically positive.

We weren't *terrible* by any means, and as I say, full marks for effort and there were some moments of quality. I'm not remotely concerned after two games either. Well OK, maybe I am just slightly remotely concerned. But we have the players, the talent, the manager and if needs be the funds to sort it out. We were still the bookies' favourites last time I looked.

Let's look forward to a much better performance on Saturday. Or should I say "even better" ;-)

This is the reason for Video Ref In the game they wont have it though because it eliminates the element of cheating going on/betting....Players sent off/ red card markets...

Red was an utter joke even Graham Poll agrees.

I thought we were brilliant 2nd half and could have easily won the game but............. Terrible finishing has cost us again :( We must buy at least 1 striker before the window slams shut.

LWB is not for Sane I felt sorry for the lad he wasn't any good against Girona last week so don't know why Pep thought it was a good idea last night. Maybe we need another fullback?

Aguero should have shot 1st time in the 1st half De Bruyne for me should have shot instead of trying to pass when Pickford was off his line. Ederson for me was unlucky on the Shrek goal the ball was going to fast. Credit to Pep 2nd half I thought the substitutes were spot on.

Anyway lots of positives from the game for me to play that well 2nd half against a team I feel will fight for a top 6 finish was excellent.

Bring on Bournemouth :)

Explosive player gets old. You could see this happening last season. It doesn't matter so much as long as Pep uses Jesus. Aguero will still score plenty of goals

Watching last night I had a strange feeling of deja vu. Shit ref making bizarre game changing decisions, dominating possession first half without really creating much, the other team putting everyone behind the ball then scoring with virtually the first good chance they get, playing well for about 25 mins rather than the whole 90. Nothing much has changed from last season.

Positive's from last night. Can't wait to see B Silva getting some full games, he looks like he is going to be very good. I thought Sterling & Danilo were both decent when they came on too.

last night game should be the springboard to great things and 2nd half was all manchester city and with 10 men should and could have won we can all moan after the game and the ref got it wrong we all know nothing will happen and the ref is a joke but again and again we must take our chances if we do it stops the ref from getting involved in the game and change the mind set of the players

i seen enough last night to say manchester city we be the team to beat and we are the team everybody wants to beat and everton are a good team and will upset a lot of teams home and away so down to 10 men for 60min its a ok result we have players to come in and change it for the better and i think we will sign a couple more players so the season does not start until the international break for me 3 games to settle back in and then you go from there

At times we still look ponderous and wasteful but the positive sign from last night's performance was the team's character.

Nah, Peps told him to add a touch (due to blocks) and it's screwed up his brain. He's still fast and generating space to score, just delaying shots for some weird reason.

Isn't he younger than Sanchez. Marv your out of your mind if you think Jesus is better than aguero. He may well become world class he isn't yet.

Loved the character of the team, 10 men down for no reason, a goal down and we still dominated and pulled it back. As usual Everton had their best game of the season against us but if you look at the stats they had no choice but to do

It was a good result considering the circumstances, we created enough and just need to put them goals away. The flak the goalkeeper has taken today is an absolute joke, no way he was saving their goal. It was arguably a fluke it didn't go wide and he did actually save it. No-one in the media mentioned his massive kick putting Sergio nearly clean through.

The best part was Bernardo coming on, he looks like an even more improved Silva (funnily enough), lots to come from him.

So 4 points out of 6, if we carry that kind of form on we'll win the league so I don't really care. Everton will do well this year, they have a great manager and they have always been a bogey team, not losing in the circumstances is a good thing.

agree totally !!
i have a sneaky suspicion we will be OK

I though Aguero did a fair bit of good work last night but he has declined as a lethal finisher.

I have just watched the game & imo Aguero is not finishing naturally, he is trying to be too precise, hence he doesn't even get a shot off on one occasion first half, when in the not too distant past, it would be safe to bet your whole family's life on him hitting the target in the same situation.

I was also surprised how good we were first half & how much worse the defending was for Everton's goal, than in the flesh (which was bad enough).

One thing that needs sorting and answering is why the fuck do we keep missing so many chances and hit the post so much?
If I was Pep I'd have them endlessly practising shooting until their blue in the face.
