F.A. to have Wayne Rooney Testimonial Match

The whole thing is beginning to unravel. And now it's revealed that the idea was Paul Stretford's (Rooney's agent), not the FA's.

It's fairly obvious then that this is nothing more than an attempt to boost his profile in the US ("Look how revered that guy from DC United is in England. They'll even play a game in his honour!")

How on earth have the FA and Southgate managed to get themselves roped into this self-serving publicity stunt?
and the charity angle is simply there to make it a little easier to sell to the public.

Can't wait to see how they spin this in to being Sterling's fault.........
Sun article "If greedy multi-millionaire Raheem Sterling had donated a fraction of his wages to the charity poor Rooney wouldn't have had to come out of retirement to make up for the shortfall"

"Sterling refused to give up his No 10 shirt for England war hero' (well ok they might not put war hero)

You do have to laugh at how incompetent the FA are. Originally it was billed as Rooney would be playing the whole match with all proceeds going to his charitable foundation. They thought England as a nation would lap it up.
Now it is shown up to be Rooneys agent Paul Stretford touteing his one pay cheque to the FA who after an avalanche of bad publicity have agreed that he can come on at th end for 10 minutes or so and somone will provide some buckets to collect the odd pound coin for RWaynes tax dodge.

Let's see if Southgate can prove he's not an FA woman.

Don't start the granny shagger or put him on the pitch at any point. When his mates in the media kick off fight back saying he's building a young team for the future not a paycheck to the past.

Fa have really excelled themselves this time.

I thought the sell Wembley was a daft idea but this is idiotic

They must be more skint than I first realised.

Is it that big of a deal? Other countries have done it for players like Baggio, Podolski, Sneijder (though that was embarrassing on his sofa). Even rumours David Silva might get something similar for Spain.

Like it or not he's England's record goalscorer.

Does it jar a little after Southgate talking about moving things forward? Yes.

Would I have sanctioned it? No. Sadly I'm not consulted.

Is it something to get fired up about? In my opinion, no.
