No, he will improve the squad, there's a big difference.
The drop off in the performance levels are vast when key positions are impacted by injuries or suspension.
Players such as Delph are hard to acquire because they are starters anywhere else.

As long as this is an additional signing to the big 3 I don't see the issue with it. He is a decent back up and more importantly means we can sell Fernando to bring in a quality foreign signing.I was a bit taken aback at the time when he decided to sign a new deal, with Villa in a relegation battle, and the chance for him to write his own cheque on a free transfer.
This clause would explain a lot.
If it exists, and the lad is up for being a squad player (a big risk going into the Euros), it's an absolute no-brainer for us and would be a great piece of business.
He has plenty of energy.
It's no surprise that just a few years ago we wanted both Sterling and Delph, but now they will cost best part of £60m.
Oh, well.
Chalobah & Hughes are nowhere near good enough for usIf we were looking to purchase a young english midfielder to boost our HG that might actually improve to a first team player I would have Ward-Prowse before him and maybe even Chabolah or Hughes.

Delph would improve us because if he came he would know he won't get many starts will eat up a HG spot and that means we could sell Fernando to bring in a top quality foreign player.True but they are also in that young and would develop bracket, I just don't see how Delph would improve. Ward-Prowse is the only option as far as I'm concerned.
The main thing I like about Delph is,his work rate.Got a great set of lungs on him and will constantly run his balls off.A very good price at £10M.Delph would improve us because if he came he would know he won't get many starts will eat up a HG spot and that means we could sell Fernando to bring in a top quality foreign player.
He's also got plenty of experience to be brought on in certain situations to do a job.
If we brought in Ward-Prowse we would be basically buying potential but he wouldn't be starting enough to improve his ability. Therefore we would have to either sacrifice one of the big stars or loan him out thus defeating the object of improving the squad.
I can see us looking at him next summer but with a rumoured £150m to be spent £10m for a decent HG player is decent business. Providing of course he's not instead of any of the major signings
Totally agree. You won't get many other England midfielders for £10m either. The main thing I like about Delph is,his work rate.Got a great set of lungs on him and will constantly run his balls off.A very good price at £10M.
I think we would struggle to sell him anyway... can't see him being much better next season. Seems always to be off the pace and as a result the games just pass him by.I get the Delph thing but do people really believe we'll sell Fernando after 1 year? Can't see it myself.
Ah, hg, at last I come across a post I agree with.
Crazy how spoilt some are on here, would be a cracking signing at £10mil. IMO a far better player than Jimmy Milner and everyone wanted him to stay....
If we pull this deal off,I think people will be pleasantly surprised with him.Too many see him as a replacement if we don`t succeed with Pogba, but for a home grown midfielder the price would be well within our budget.Totally agree. You won't get many other England midfielders for £10m either.
I know its all about opinions but to regard him "nowhere near good enough" is stupid.he's nowhere near good enough. Would be a crap signing, would not trust him in the slightest in any mildly important game.
