Yeah, after next summer.

By then they can sell a player to offset it, probably Mata or Van Persie.

United will have held an ace card if they have indeed guaranteed to purchase.

His loan fee will also come off the asking price, no doubt.

Mendes isn't daft enough to send him on loan to City or anywhere else if he can also rely on a £50m plus balancing payment.

If I were Arsenal, I'd offer United £10m for Van Persie!
Thought RVP had a knee injury? Or is that over-exaggerated?

I don't think Arsenal could get anywhere to matching RVP's wages. Supposed to be around £250k pw

Utd are stuck with RVP.

United would certainly have to pay Van Persie off, and that's too much even for them!

Like Rooney, they are creating gilded cages for players who are getting older.

Something we have done with Yaya.

We've got £25m burning a hole in our pocket, outside of Negredo.

The team, despite being great champions, needed a lift IMO, even with the restrictions.

Arsenal did this with Sanchez, Chelsea with Fabregas, United with Di Maria/Falcao and Liverpool with Balotelli.

Sometimes it is about making your rivals sit up and take notice. Especially so, when we failed to do so the last time after a title win.
Nail on head.....

Looks pretty clear that we were in for him, but only on our terms and Utd trumped them.

Falcao has put £ before football which is something our players were accused of. He moved from Porto to Monaco when he had the whole of football chasing his signature. There you go. Still a great player. Certainly so when fit.

The only noise was coming from the Falcao camp, why was that i wonder?

I must of missed his athletico career

Just to throw it out there but he did have a cruciate ligament injury last year??

We've strengthened superbly this summer, the bitterness from some makes me chuckle....

Oh well, we'll just have to settle for this:

We paid big for a defender a position we needed to strengthen

Oh, no doubt, bud.

Mangala is an excellent purchase for the future and addressed an issue.

By that I mean, an actual globally recognised name in last couple years.

Has anyone heard that he apparently failed a medical at Real Madrid, that's why they pulled out. City did'nt know this at first so was interested till they found out, so pulled the plug on the deal.

That would be funny, especially if he fails at the rags!

There must be some issues regarding his fitness or bayern and chelsea would also been interested!

And he may prove crucial.

Fernando at 12m may also prove to one of the signings of the season.

However, I think TH makes a valid point.

Didn't this bloke go from Atletico to Monaco for £50m? And now they want £52m, after a cruciate injury? Maybe I've got my figures wrong, but I can remember lots of people on here at the time saying £50m was too much. Now it seems that that was a snip, according to some on here.
Also, I don't get this loan for one season, then buying. That is allegedly what the deal with Valencia for Negredo involves. Supposedly, even though we wouldn't get the money until next season, people were on here last night saying that for FFP purposes we could count that as this years income.
So if Utd are OBLIGATED to buy as part of this loan, and they are loaning due to FFP, then how the hell doesn't that money from the purchasing club also count as this year's expenditure? Otherwise why are we not just doing the same sort of deals with other players? "Tell you what (insert club name), we'll loan him this season, pay a loan fee, then buy next season when FFP is history for us, and even chuck in a couple of million extra, just for being so understanding."

Something not right here.

EDIT:
Just said on BBC that it is an "option" to buy at £43m. So no deal in place at all, presumably meaning that Mendes tweets about all this are fabricated or absolute bollocks.
