Fans leaving early.

In Germany teams thank their fans by walking to the fans-end (unfortunately we don't sem to have that area anymore at Eastlands) and thank them for their support. Obviously when the team wins it's like a big celebration, when they don't it's still very much appreciated by the fans yet not so festy.

Why is there not a single PL-club who does this kind of thing? Is it another rule by the FA as to safety?
I''m sure if there was to be a fans-end again, preferably a safe standing-area, and the players would go there en-group, it would definitely keep a lot of fans stay till the end and after.

On the subject: people who leave early have not learned from Gillingham and QPR. Final.

Late goals in important games will, has and always will be,so people make their decisions irrespective of what MAY happen in a football match. It changes nothing for a lot of people. Are they losers ?? Who knows and who cares...they make that decision and nobody else.

you cant force people to stay but imho all the empty seat look shite when watching motd.

more and more clubs seem to be struggling with attendance, price reduction should be brought in to try and fill the grounds

I can understand why someone wouldn't want to be stuck in a car park for an hour with a kid, but the people I go with are all 'grown ups' but still leave before the end every game. Just so they can get home 20mins early. What's the differnce between getting home at half 10 and 11pm on a weekday to these people? They start work at 9am ffs.

They leave early in Saturday matches to get home at half 5 instead of 6. Just so they can sit in front of the tv half anhr earlier?

Each to their own but it's not for me

The comparison to Maine Road is interesting.

Maine Road was an absolute mare to get away from. Saying that, most fans didn't arrive by car.

The Etihad in my opinion is much easier to get away from, but because of it's location in East Manchester, more fans now have to travel by car to get there.

The Mancunian Way, coming in from the West of the City(Trafford, Salford, etc), and Hyde Road, coming in from the East/South/M60 of the city(Tameside, Stockport, etc), are absolutely rammed with cars.

I used to live in Ladybarn and walked to Maine Road. Now I live in Cheadle Heath and drive to the Etihad. I park 10-15 minutes from the ground and walk the rest of the way.

In a nutshell. More City fans use their cars to get to the Etihad. The Trams and Buses have made a difference, but not enough of a difference to get People/fans out of thier cars.

Perhaps the club could team up with GMPTE and offer buses/coaches from Metrolink Park and ride car parks on Matchdays, for a minimum fare. That would take more cars off the road on matchdays.

As an example. Getting a tram from East Didsbury means a tram into town, changing, and then a tram to the Etihad. A bus/ coach at the park and ride would take you straight to the ground. I appreciate it's not the perfect solution, but it would take more cars of the road on matchdays.

-- Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:45 pm --

The comparison to Maine Road is interesting.

There's a match day bus service that stops right outside East Didsbury tram station that takes you direct to the ground.

I have to say that the system of getting cars out of the main City car parks at the bottom of JMW (which cost £10 if you don't have a full season ticket by the way) is a joke. I parked there for the recent Watford game and we hadn't budged an inch a full hour after full-time.. no need for it.Yesterday I decided to not do my usual thing of leaving at 85 minutes.. instead I watched the game in it's entirety and clapped the players off at the end (even Dzeko!). Then I casually strolled round to City Square and had a nosey round the shop.. then sat down and watched some of the analysis on stage (Tommy Booth & Peter Barnes we were on good form). Must have only been half an hour but by the time I walked down JMW - of course the City car parks were still packed with little movement. However as I'd parked over the road near the Kippax pub, getting away was a doddle. Might try this in future!

It's no better in any of the other car parks. I usually park up up in St Brigid's School behind Mary D's. After the Barca game, I turned left out onto Grey Mare Lane (which was closed and diverted round to the right at the bottom) with the aim of getting back onto Alan Turing Way. Sat stationary for 35 minutes, so turned it round and went back up Grey Mare Lane toward Ashton New Road. Took 15 mins to turn right onto ANR and then a further 15 mins to turn right onto ATW, courtesy of traffic lights that were green for all of 10 seconds at a time in an Easterly direction. An hour and 5 minutes and I was closer to the ground than where I'd parked. How/Why Plod can't sort this traffic shambles out is beyond me. Rephasing the lights around the ground for longer periods in each direction would be a good start. Not like the Etihad is surrounded by tiny country lanes is it? Not a surprise then that there's a fire drill every week from the 85th minute onwards.......

You'd be surprised how much easier it is to get away from the car parks (and free street parking) on the other side of the ground near Phillips Park Cemetary as you can usually make an easy exit turning away from Alan Turing Way going up Briscoe Lane. I've never parked over near Mary Ds so I couldn't really comment.

As for Maine Road, I think that is where this leaving early comes from with many people - it was an absolute bastard to get away from. When I was kid my Dad never entertained the prospect of staying till full time.. always 10 minutes to go, we missed loads of goals and always wondered what had happened - had to wait till we got to the car to find out.

Stoke game on Saturday was particularly bad.

I blame Ant and Dec.

Stoke fans were singing the usual FIRE DRILL shit.

City sang back: "It's cos it's fucking boring"

And it was.

can't turn right on to Briscoe Lane after the game now.

You can from the car parks on Briscoe Lane.. there's loads of them, usually around £5. I parked at the massive one at the back of the cemetary for the Barca game last week and got out easily even staying till FT.
