ITK or just a hunch?

Bit of both.

ITK because I'm aware that Liverpool's finances are ten times worse than they are making out, and if they don't sell big players or find £150m down the back of the sofa, they will end up in administration and soon. I also know that we have bid for Torres on several occasions already; the day of the takeover, last season in the summer and we have yet again contacted Liverpool pre-World Cup to ask for a price. I don't know what they said back to us though, probably "wait".

The hunch part, is that Torres will be forced to leave Liverpool to help with their finances. Gerrard to Real Madrid could alleviate them, but they will fetch nowhere near the price that Torres will. Added to this, Gerrard is thoroughlly a Liverpool man and I think he will probably want to stay after lots of umming and ahhing. I honestly think we'll be taking Kaka like money in a bid for Torres.
Silva is an attraction for him as they link up fantastically at international level, and maybe Torres will feel that he's settled in the area. Maybe he won't, and he'll piss off to Barca or something.

I don't see him going to Real Madrid, due to the Athletic thing and the fact that he has rejected them before. Barca have too many strikers already, so I don't see him going there. Inter might go in for him, as would ze Germans, and Chelsea. None of them (as a guess) would probably go to the type of money that we will go to though, and Liverpool will definitely sell to the highest bidder on this one. He's already not in the CL, and has constantly said he wanted to win trophies (which is why he went to scouse in the first place). As his friend Benitez has just left, he might feel that a move down the East Lancs to link up with Silva and Tevez is a good career move and I don't think that even the most ragiest of rags would admit that we'll probably win things over the next 5 years.

So, ITK on the fact that Liverpool are fucked, guesswork on the rest.

Sounds a pretty good calculated guess!

Me thinks Torres is going down the Marco van Basten path in terms of injuries. Superb player on his day but along with Gerrard both are a busted flush. Stay way clear of him.

But still, just a guess.
what kind of price you reckon we need to bid..50mill or more pal

I think it would need to be in the region of £70m imo.

Yes Liverpool are in the mire financially but he is their main saleable asset so they will squeeze for as much as poss then paint it that they couldnt turn it down etc etc

Some very good points there Damocles

The Silva signing is the one that should turn his head

Forza Mancini

Cards on table David Villa cost Barca 40 million euros and he is the best forward in the world at the moment, certainly better than Torres IMO, his stupid goal scoring record at international level proves this.

Plus he doesnt have Torres horrific injury record.

Barca want Torres as well as Fabragas but what they cant understand is if they can sign a better, non injury prone player in Villa for 40 million euro how can Liverpool demand 80 million euros for Torres ?

Dont get me wrong I would love a fully fit Torres at city but as with Gerrard I feel he has been ruined by being played too much by Liverpool especially when he was injured.

For £40 million I would take the risk on him but if you are talking telephone numbers I dont think its worth it, there are other options that are not as good players but would cost half as much and probably end up contributing the same number of goals etc, considering Torres fitness problems.

In an ideal world for Barca we would part ex Robinho for Ibra and a ton of cash and they would get torres to partner with Villa. But its starting to look like we mean business in the market this summer and dont want to be the paymaster for Barcas fantasy football.

Ibra might still end up at city this summer but it really does look like hes probably our 3rd choice at the moment.

If we do sign Torres the scousers will go absolutely MENTAL. He will need some serious protection if he moved in the prem especially to us IMO.

On balance I still think he will end up at Barca.

There are some pretty bad rumoours doing the rounds about Gerrard, talk of a gaging order on the press and the story will break shortly.

If the rumours are true I wouldnt expect him to get a big move anywhere this summer he would have to stay at Liverpool.

So Torres and Masc will almost certainly be sold.
