Fernando vs Garcia

He is not a DM for a midfield duo. Mabye every once from 10 games he can do his job well in a duo but mostly not.

He is a deep sitting DM in a midfield trio, and that role is exactly what he should play and was playing that role at Porto at a very good level. Less running, less energy needed in that role than if he has to do lot more in a duo.

What we dont have is high workrate from player centrally in attacking player. Chelsea have it in Oscar/Willian. Arsenal had it with Ramsey, Cazorla against us and that killed us.

We are so open trough the middle, not enough track back, its a kind of nightmare for DM position players at City and that makes it also a nightmare scenario for defenders.

Still Fernando should be better than he is I think, and so far did not improve the squad much more than Garcia would have.

Bang! He is a good player for the role he plays. He is perfect for a 4-3-3 (the formation that every one of our teams plays from the U10s to the EDS). Unfortunately at our "holistic" club the first team (the one that matters) doesn't have to go along with the entire clubs formation. Weird.

Fernando doesn't seem to me to be the player we was buying or indeed needed. I'd prefer a "three" of Jimmy, Fernandino and Yaya.

He needs to improve quickly and adapt, all top players do, he now needs to prove his worth.

In the current market, you don't get any better than Fernando for £12m.

Alex Song.

Unsure why we keep trying to sign this kind of player, when they clearly don't fit our system lol. A decent to good level of passing, or at least the ability to shift it forwards quickly should be required of any DM we sign, because with Garcia and now fernando the same thing has happened. Signing players who are specialists to the extreme, AKA if you dont play them in a midfield 5 in a defensive set-up, they will struggle, for a midfield that is always outnumbered/stretched just isn't the smartest business.

Whatever merits either one has when in their correct position is irrelevant, because it doesn't fit either mancini's or pellegrini's style of football and so they become bad signings even if they are not bad players. To have made the identical mistake twice is pretty galling too, club thinks they need a specialist DM to cover our attacking play, but they probably need another all rounder like Fernandinho, someone who can defend but also isn't a klutz on the ball and a burden on our passing game. (not that he's in stellar form either, but is capable of being brilliant in the way we play)

Can see now why Mancini was so desperate to get De Rossi as he can defend and can pass as well as has a shot on him. He probably didn't mind De Jong leaving as thought the club would do all they could to get a player like De Rossi but instead ended up with Garcia

De Rossi would probbaly have had similar issues to Garcia due to his lack of pace. He would also be suited to Mancini's deeper system but not necessarily Pellers more open one. Also, he was 29 that summer

Pretty much what I would say, bang on.

Fair enough, but there's a reason only Westham wanted him from Barca. Try to buy him now and you won't get him at lower than £15m
