Fifa to clamp down on City and Chelsea business model

So, as predicted, our academy is the next target. And the one after that ? Obviously the group structure. Essentially, our rivals are studying our business model and systematically dismantling it.

If FIFA are serious, then surely the answer is to implement B teams in England. The Premier league has surely enough gumption to do this on a standalone basis. One of the requirements for being promoted to the PL would be you have to have a B team. Nice mix of injury returning stars, experienced squad players and youngsters. It’s not quite what Spain have but that would require B teams to be integrated into the Football Leagues.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was a decent competition for them to play in. I've heard Joey Barton say he learned the most from playing in the lower leagues becasue they're more physical and that prepares you for football life in the top leagues better because you're playing against pros who know all the tricks.

Which clubs in the lower leagues, and which pros who knew all the tricks did he play against? My memory was he played for City, then Newcastle. And 39 minutes for England in a friendly.

Ah, the Central League, with a bloke coming round every 15 mins with a board showing the score at the first team's game away.

The measure seems drastic but we could do with getting our act together when players like Mangala and Nasri are on loan for years.

If we have 28 players on loan (mainly to generate extra income from future sales) it is still a poor return that we only have one home grown player who might break into the first team.

The business model happens because FFP pushes clubs to do it this way. Simple as that. I doubt many clubs specifically desire lots of players out on loan, but it is a revenue stream.
