Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Fulham hardly put a ball out of play all game. No comparison with the team we used to put 5 past a decade ago. Brentford were good too.

I like this competitive league.
Surely you jest!

City have made this a farmer’s league!

Clearly knew we weren’t going to get anything down either wing first half, so we persisted with playing very tight and tricky one-touch combinations through the middle of their defence. It nearly led to a goal in the opening minutes, but it is a hugely risky strategy ; lose possession there and it’s heck of a chase back to protect Ederson.

I suppose a question is, could he come on and score a goal like Doku did?
I do like the control, the ball-keeping and space he creates for us though. The problem for me however is that, like Rico, he seems incapable of scoring.
CL away games for control /possession.

A little surprised at the amount of criticism aimed at Lewis in the match thread. That said, some right pricks post bollocks in there. Lewis has been brilliant this season, today it wasn’t his day but he wasn’t poor.
Haaland was far less effective but gets a pass when he doesn’t show up.
Midfield is a problem for us at the moment. Kovacic didn’t have a great match and his ball retention was horrible. Grateful for his two strikes though.
Credit to a resilient Fulham who were stubborn at the back and decent up top. I think they had only conceded 5 this season before today.
We haven’t hit top form yet and we have Bobb, KDB and Ake to come back.
I think it will be a tough season. We may strengthen/ refresh for next season but I don’t expect anything to happen in the next window.
Good player, but never a full back in a million years. Pep saved him by bringing Stones on.

After falling a goal behind, we came back well enough, but then conceded again to set ourselves up for a really nervy ending to the game .... poor game management that was, and Pep would have been tearing his hair out if he'd had any!

Just as well that Ederson got to Traores shots too on those breakaways ...

Fulham are a game side with some decent players, but fortunately for us they just ran out of time before they could do any real damage ..... we have to defend better than we are currently doing, we won't get away with it every week.

On the plus side at least two quality goals from City, and i got the shock of my life when Dokus actually flew in!

KDB should be back for the next game and we have Wolves and Southampton... so hopefully these dodgy performances will be largely forgotten soon

I understand you Rammy and having critical analysis of where we need to improve is valuable.
I think it’s the endless “Gundogan is shit” type of comment that help no one.
Personally I didn’t see too many saying he is shit? We know he isn’t, but anyone who thinks he should be playing 90 minutes at the moment after some of his recent performances may as well switch sports.

not alot of legs in the midfield area, gonna be interesting to see how pep deals with it. Now he'll have KDB & Ake to play with as well.

Dissection is fine. It's to be welcomed, actually. I've always said, constructive criticism is no bad thing. But mindless criticism/abuse of players ("x/y/z is shit, get fucking rid") serves no purpose whatsoever. But quite a few on here seem to get their jollies from doing it.
But we should be long enough in the tooth to ignore the wums that say that kind of shite, it’s really not that difficult.

Lost to Real Madrid on pens
The game is over when the Referee blows his whistle for full time, the team that goes through to the next round is decided by a penalty shoot out.
So you win or lose the penalty shoot out not the game.
