Blimey, who have thought it - what a coincidence - and there was me thinking every time I see your name, the content can invariably be dismissed as; pointless, banal, tosh, and without substance............... and here we go again!

ps. Lescott is still an pretty good Premiership footballer; no more, no less - but not Champions League ability - our manager thinks the same, which is why he's trying to buy the finished article - fact.
Can you provide a link/interview as to where Mancini has said this?
Sorry he did put fact,so surely that means thats it and end of that mini debate!
I am a big fan of Lescott but the fact Mancini played Kolo Toure against Bayern Munich away seems to me that Mancini might fancy a CB with more CL experience especially for the big games.

How did that work out for him?

There were times last season when I thought Lescott was as good, if not better, than Vinny. The guy is quality.

Oh, and why on a Gareth Bale thread are talking about Lescott!

Any more news on Bale's shirt in the club shop..?

Lescott is a brilliant Premier League defender, it can't even be argued against at this point.

But people have a point about Europe, both he and Barry didn't look as good against Champions League sides, Barry was especially poor in most CL games and was benched eventually if I recall right. Maybe it was the culture shock or unfamiliarity (neither had played in the CL before) or maybe their flaws are easier to expose by tactically shrewd European sides like Napoli who seemed to play a thinking man's game while most English teams are very one dimensional. Lescott was good against Porto in the Europa League though, and they are a CL level side.

If we do buy bale, will Mancini play him on the left wing, or the right?! lets not forget Johnson is a left winger...

thats what i can't figure out about this rumour, mancini's teams always set up to play with width from fb, with midfielders encouraged to play wherever there's space - a fluid system that i've never seen bale play in

Doesn't seem to be any hard evidence for a Bale bid other than wishful thinking.

im convinced Mancini will sign Bale, the fact that its a position in our team that would be instantly improved, plus his age and ability to play 2 or 3 different roles.Bale ticks all the boxes im sure everyone at the club know this, but have to play a smart game to try to prise him away from spurs for a reasonable amount. If we can move on 3 or 4 loan/squad players and add Bale that would be brilliant.

It wasn't even remembered in the first place. Johnson's a right winger, a RIGHT WINGER. Even he said so himself that he's most comfortable on the right.

barry definitely did play poorly in the CL...however, i didn't think he really hit top form in the league until a while after that. when he gave up the ball that led to napoli's goal, i remember having a very low opinion on him. i really didn't think my opinion would change either. but he surprised me...he was huuuuge in the league matches the last few months. i definitely think a martinez/m'vila type player would be a great addition, but i have faith in GB now.

Of course. He doesn't really have the strength nor pace to pass defenders and whip in a decent cross. He prefers to cut inside so he can use his stronger left foot.

Bale will not be leaving Tottenham and when he does, It will be abroad for a fee that is over £50million pounds.

At the end of the day, You can say it's inflated or he is not worth that much, That's the price Levy will set out and considering the transfers that have been made recently where youtube hype jobs like Hazard playing in a league where Chamakh looks like a striker costs £32million, Levy has every right to demand £50million for Gareth because he has outperformed Hazard and Hulk in the Champions League with relative ease.

Welcome to the board Dave. Daniel Levy's a very shrewd operator but players have the whip hand these days and Spurs have a tight wage structure like United used to before Rooney screwed them. But unlike United, Spurs can't offer regular CL football. Plus the transfer fee agenda is going to be shaped by FFP and fees like £50m are going to be harder to achieve possibly.

Well, then he'll never be sold and you will have an unhappy player, especially if you fail to get CL qualification next season again. If it's true he's on <£30k/week then if I was him I'd be really pissed as he could treble that wage at half a dozen clubs in the PL alone, us, dippers, rags, Chelsea, Arsenal - I'm fairly sure even some clubs like Sunderland, Newcastle would at least double his wage.

No-one will pay £50m for Bale (even us) when players like Nasri, Silva, Yaya, Mata, Sanchez, Fabregas etc are all going for £25m-£30m. Hazzard was an anomaly and Chelski are reverting to their 'buy at all costs' mentality. I'd say £25m would be a fair price with £30m being steep but not too unreasonable.

Agree with that except i'd say his price tag will be a little bit more than £25m-30m. Probably £30m-35m. He's an exciting player who runs at people and these sort of players tend to have a little bit added on top of their fee because of that.

JL showed his class when Mackie scored to put QPR 1.2 up in the last game of the season by not knocking the ball away with his hand, which I think 8 out of 10 defenders in that situation would have done, because he didn't he was on the spot to head the ball down to NDJ who went up to Aguero.......Balotelli.......Aguerooooooooooooo you know the rest !.
