Gareth Barry

After that defensive display Barry must stay, he offfers protection to the defence.

Was thinking exactly the same. The defence needs some cover in front. All 3 goals came from breakaways so I also think we need to seriously think how we are going to deal with the ball over the top if we are going to play such a high line

He's also been responsible for more than a few goals that we've conceded in past games ....

such as him giving away needless free kicks just outside the penalty area , and poor passing giving the opposition possession in dangerous places ...... yes , we looked poor at the back for their goals today , but there have been some games in which Gareth Barry has played in which we've hardly looked any better!

LOL, name them please....

Barca: Song, Mascherano, Busquets

Bayern: Gustavo, Martinez, Schweni

Real Madrid: Khedira, Casmeiro, Illarramendi, Xabi Alonso
Song and Busquets I'll give you.

Martinez I'll give you.

Khedira I'll give you.
Illarramendi and Alonso are more "holding" than Khedira aren't they? Both defensively adept too.

Also, Song is shite.

Barry has been a brilliant signing for us. However it was noticeable last season that when he had an off day he really did have an absolute stinker. The away games at Ajax, Southampton and Everton come readily to mind. And when he's not playing well opponents do seem to target him and exploit his lack of pace.

At least for Ajax he simply was a woeful choice from Bobby. But true, a Fernandinho was sorely needed as Gaz has oak trunks for legs and turns like an oil tanker.

Barry, Garcia, Kolarov,

We should get City to arrange a charity "sprint" between the 3 of them, maybe throw Jolene in as well.
Are you saying Kolarov is as slow as Garcia, Barry & Lescott? If so thats ridiculous

It'd explain why he wasn't taken to Finland, but is it worth loaning him out for the last year of his contract? Are we that desperate to cut the wage bill immediately?

Aston Villa have turned down the chance to take former skipper Gareth Barry on loan, talkSPORT understands.

The midfielder left Villa to join Manchester City in 2009 and played a prominent role in the Citizens winning the Premier League title in 2012.

But Barry is not in the plans of new manager Manuel Pellegrini and will not be offered an extension on his contract, which expires next summer.

And with Yaya Toure, Javi Garcia and summer signing Fernandinho all ahead of him in the club’s central midfield pecking order, the 32-year-old will be allowed to go this summer.

Sources close to Manchester City have revealed to talkSPORT that Villa have been sounded out about taking Barry back on a loan deal.

However, Paul Lambert has rejected the chance to re-sign the England international, with the Scot only interested in recruiting young players under the age of 24.
