I don't think a thread about his resignation should be merged with one on his legacy.

As for his legacy, I genuinely believe that 90% of the good things he has achieved would not be beyond anyone on this forum. To praise Garry Cook does a disservice to the chairman and owner.

I know he's told a lot of fans what they want to hear (the same way Thaksin did), but look at the wage structure, look at the enemies he's made, look at the way the club's name has been dragged through the mud. Well done will always be better than well said. And for all his demagoguery and buying some gullible bloke a pint, I can't help but feel this is a good day for the club.

I agree! I started that and its a different aspect entirely from his departure.
I don't,it's just attention seeking like the threads that have been merged into here.

I think someone need to explain to you the concept of a forum.

Duncan Castles confirms that City suspect Kia.

By this summer's transfer window, City were reporting Dr Onuoha to the Football Association for mandating Joorabchian to negotiate her son's exit from the club, but deadline day passed without either a transfer or a loan being agreed.

Senior figures at City hold Joorabchian responsible for those deals falling through. Though the Anglo-Iranian has denied any involvement, they also believe Joorabchian was involved in the leaking of the ugly email that ultimately led to Cook's resignation.

Cook exit opens door for Jazira CEO at Manchester City

Phil Anderton, the chief executive at Al Jazira, could be involved in any executive reshuffle at Manchester City following the resignation of Garry Cook yesterday.

Cook conceded he made an "error of judgement" in mistakenly sending an offensive email to the mother of Nedum Onuoha, the City defender, which prompted an internal investigation. The email - intended for City's football administrator Brian Marwood - appeared to mock Onuoha's mother, who was suffering from cancer.

The departure of Cook leaves a void in the corridors of power at the Etihad Stadium and an opening for Anderton.

He was headhunted by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, the chairman of Al Jazira and owner of City, for the position at Jazira and interviewed by Cook and an Abu Dhabi-based City executive.

Anderton took up his role at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in January 2010, and has impressed his paymasters by attracting a record crowd of 28,164 for a domestic UAE game, and overseeing the club's league and cup double last season.

John Macbeath, a director, has been installed as City's temporary CEO, but Anderton could work in tandem with John Williams, the former Blackburn Rovers chairman who joined City's football operations team in July.

Keen to build their global brand, City may transfer Anderton, whose background is ostensibly in marketing, from Abu Dhabi to Manchester, particularly as the outgoing Cook played an instrumental key role in the club's commercial growth.

Anderton was based in the United States as the global brand ambassador for Coca-Cola and has held various executive positions in sport, including the Scottish Rugby Union and the ATP World Tennis Tour.

Which is the polite way of sacking someone....otherwise the club would have rejected his resignation.

Yeah, I know. I was refering to the 'otherwise we're in trouble' statement at the end of the sentence - alluding to the fact that Cook may try and seek some sort of recompense for unfair dismissal?
No, mate. My point was a witch-hunt over a mis-sent e-mail should not cost our CEO his job. I hope he was sacked because the club saw it as an appropriate opportunity to get someone else in and move the club on in a way Cook couldn't. Otherwise it's open season on us.

Fair play, mate. With the rumours that Cook wanted to go back to the States and the speed with this has been dealt with I think it's probably the former.

Bottom line for me is Cook will, I assume, ultimately be replaced by somebody of a greater standing and who will continue to take the club forward. And to be honest, I don't think anybody has come out of this smelling of roses, whether that be Cook, Ned or his mum - I'm just glad the club have acted quickly.

I don't heap praise on anyone who does their job well, when paid very handsomely to do so.
But I will say that he did his job and on the face of it did it well enough, but he is a nob of the highest order and the club will be a better place without him, as the next chief will do his job well enough without the GC baggage.

I think that's a very, very good question.

Indeed.

Why would he walk away from a powerful role at the richest club in the world?

Because his mate dropped one clanger too many? Doubt it.

Not a snowball in hell's chance... Mancini will smell blood now!

Personally, and I'm no great fan of Marwood's, I doubt the board would sanction further bloodletting. In the medium term, maybe.

I suppose he might find himself a bit further down the effective pecking order as part of any immediate reshuffle.
Carlos has been telling us for 12 months that Cook & Marwood are not to be trusted. maybe he was right all along!

Also, as Zin alluded to earlier.... What was the original email to Mrs Onahua that generated the 'ravaged with cancer' comment.... Marwood may have been equally unprofessional...

If any of his emails towards Dr No were disrespectful or unprofessional why weren't they featured in the stories?

Anyway, he certainly didn't get caught, and it wasn't the latest in a long line of stories.

Totally agree with your last comment.. I said earlier... one gaffe to many!

i was unfortunate enough to work for a large multi PLC a few years ago, and we had 3 MD's in 4 years...an absolute nightmare, with in fighting, bitching, office politics and worse of all was the lack of direction or constant changing of goalposts

what started it all?........each new md wanted to bring in their own personell and staff

hope this doesnt rock the boat too much, but i can see at least 2 or 3 others following and a lot of new faces
Funnily enough, I'm in the middle of writing a piece about workplace culture and the life expectancy of a CEO. Your experience (or at least what I am arguing in my article) is causal to why culture rarely changes at a level the general workforce recognise.

Probably not explained it well, but when I finally finish it, I'll post it on Off Topic if that's ok, or I won't as doubtless plenty will tell me to fuck off!

Will be interesting to see who we get in.

I alluded to this on the other thread and also thought it could get dirty, first strike Kia.

I fully expect Kia to get more media coverage in the near future, what goes around comes around......................
